SUNDAY. I.

WEEK.

THY HY Holy Day, O God, reminds us of Thine Almighty power, with which Thou hast made the world, and hast redeemed men; wherefore, O Almighty Lord and loving Saviour, I worship Thee, and give Thee thanks with all my heart for the world which Thou hast fashioned. I give Thee thanks for that Thou art one only God, holy, wise, merciful, the preserver, the all-beautiful,

the Almighty, infinite, lacking nothing of all glory, majesty, and power. I give Thee thanks for that Thou art one God in Three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, forgetful of which the unbelieving worship other gods beside Thee, besides Whom there is in truth no God. Grant, O God, that all Christians may make progress in all goodness, glory, and virtue, so that they may worship and glorify Thee, and evermore serve Thee with all their heart and mind.

Holy Father, have mercy upon us; O most blessed Son of God, deliver us from hell; O Holy Spirit, grant us the glory of Thy protection. Hear, Ó Lord, my Creator, hear the prayers and entreaties of my sinful soul, and give me grace to pray to Thee with great humility, that I may honour this Holy Day according to Thy ordinance, and the commandments of Thy Holy Church our mother: Grant me a real contrition for all my iniquities by which I have sinned against Thee, against my own soul, and against my neighbour. I implore Thee, All-merciful Lord and Everlasting God, to blot out from this day forward my many sins against the multitude of Thy

mercies.

I thank Thee, O God, also for all the good things, and the help Thou hast given me, day by day, until now; most especially for the regeneration of my soul, and its deliverance, for all Thy mercy and patience, and that Thou hast dealt with me according to the ocean of Thy mercies, and not according to the multitude of my sins.

I pray Thee moreover, O Lord Christ, to give me Thy grace, that I may pass this week well and piously, with

out offending Thee in thought, word, or deed, in honour of Thy Incarnation and of Thy rising on the third day, and of the Holy Ghost, Who came down upon the day of Pentecost upon Thy Apostles.

Particularly I offer my prayer to Thee for every soul that is troubled or tormented, that Thou wouldest give help and comfort according to Thy great wisdom and Thine unsearchable power. Through Thy holy Passion and glorious Death give us all knowledge of our sins, that we may know them, repent of them, and correct them; that we may hate them, and break them off by

good works, that at the hour of death we may be found ready, and worthily receiving Thy Holy Communion, may find a part in Thy kingdom of life and peace. Redeem us, Christians, by Thy sacred blood: raise us up by Thy resurrection : take us to heaven by Thy ascension, that we may worship and glorify Thee for ever. Amen.

II.

GOD, the light of my eyes, the joy of my heart, wherefore do we stray away

irom Thee? Whom else shall we seek? Whom else shall we desire? Wound my soul, I pray Thee, with Thy love: fill all my desires, that nothing beside Thee may delight me, nothing attract me; that [ may behold Thee in all Thy creatures, and in all Thy creatures love Thee alone. May I ever long for 'Thee with the most fervent desire, and ever think of Thee alone with the most holy love. O Lord Jesu, inflame my heart with the most holy and most faithful love of Thee. Make me to burn with love of Thee: with a continual love of Thee. Like as the hart desireth the water brooks, so let my soul Inog after Thee, O God. Give

me an insatiable, unbounded desire of Thee, which no creature shall be able to satisfy. O 'Lord Jesu, I pray Thee by Thy piercing with a spear, to transfix my heart with love of Thee, that I may love Thee with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind; that is, with an entire and undivided will; that I may love Thee, seek Thee, and labour to please Thee in all things, and above all things,

Make me to love Thee with all my soul, that all my senses may be ruled by Thee, and

only intent on Thee. Make me to love Thee with all my mind, that my understanding and my memory may be filled with Thee and Thy glory, and may cleave only to Thee. Make me to love Thee with all my strength, that I may be spent entirely in Thy praise, Thy love, and in accordance with Thy will. Make me to love Thee, O God, so that Thou alone mayest possess me, and transform me into Thy likeness; Who livest and reignest God, world without end. Amen.

III.

The Holy Name. GOD, Who hast appointed Thine Only-begotten Son to be the Saviour of mankind, and called His Name Jesus, grant that we who now venerate His sacred Name, may hereafter with joy behold His face in heaven: through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

MONDAY.

I.

JESUS CHRIST, eternal Lord and God, I acknowledge and confess, with great humility and lowliness of heart,

that I day by day offend against | voices, nor behold their bright

Thy love. I pray Thee, therefore, at the beginning of this week's labours, to pardon and forgive me, humbly beseeching Thee of Thy great mercy to grant me grace to make a good beginning, to think of and to labour for my soul, for which Thou hast endured such toils and pains in Thy holy Crucifixion. I implore Thee, O God, my Creator, that I may from this day forth unto the end of my life be confirmed in good to the honour and glory of Thy kingdom, and for my own salvation.

To Thee I offer this day my soul, my body, and all that is mine; and pray Thee that Thou wouldest make Thy will to work in me as seemeth best to Thee. Give me patience to endure, and chastise me now, O most merciful, and not in the world to come. Pardon the living and the dead according to the comfort Thou bestowest in Thy Holy Church, and grant me a place with them in Paradise, that I with them may rejoice in glory.

Grant me the protection of Thy holy angels, to guard me day and night, and to assist my soul in approaching, by a sincere repentance, unto God. And although I hear not their

ness, nor am conscious of their assistance helping me to good, yet let them guard me, warding off from me the power of temptation, that it may not overcome me, Let them defend me from my foes, visible and invisible, that I transgress not against the Lord. At the hour of my death may they, stand by me and protect me, and bear my soul into Thy Presence, that I may worship Thy glorious face, and behold the joys of Thy saints, when I shall glorify Thee for the mercy with which Thou receivest my prayer, and evermore speak of Thy praises. Amen.

II. "1

LORD JESUS CHRIST, Son of the living God, grant me to hunger and thirst after Thee with all my heart, and all my desire, and all my soul; sweetly and peaceable to long for Thee; and ever to desire Thee with all my spirit and my whole inner man, Who art our true blessedness. Let every creature become worthless to me, and nothing affect. me, nothing please me, except Thee, O sweet Jesu: transfix my heart with Thy most holy. love. Draw all my desires.

after Thee, that my soul may long for Thee alone, and longing for Thee, may despise all earthly things. O sweet Jesu, fill my heart with sacred longing for Thee, that I may ever burn with love of 'Thee; and ever thinking of Thee, may desire nothing beside Thee. Would that Thou only wert dear to my heart, that Thou alone couldest please me! O Lord God, when shall I perfectly love Thee? O my Lord God, would that I could entirely despise myself and all the world for love of Thee; would that my heart might be melted with Thy love, and transformed according to Thy pleasure, Who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen.

The Most Holy Trinity. ALMIGHTY and everlast

ing God, Who hast given unto us Thy servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the Eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity: we beseech Thee, that Thou wouldest keep us stedfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities; Who livest and

GOD the Father, Who

at the beginning didst say, Let there be light, and there was light, lighten mine eyes that I sleep not in death, lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him.

O God the Son, Light of light, highest light, most true light, Creator of the light and of the day: O Light that shinest in darkness, lighting every man that cometh into the world, drive away from me all darkness of ignorance, and give me understanding, that in Thee and by Thee I may see and know the Father, Whom to see is to live, and Whom to serve is to reign.

O God the Holy Ghost, O fire of light and love, illumine me with Thy light, that I may be able rightly to distinguish between the deceitful pleasures of the world and the true joys of heaven. Lighten my mind that I may see how great a good our enemy would have us exchange for a shadow that flitteth by. Give me to see that is Thine, and to be blind to all else, Pour into my
