GOD, Who dost grant

us year by year to rejoice in the resurection of Thy Son mercifully grant that these transitory fea-ts which we observe may assist us to attain to everlasting joys; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HEAVENLY Father, Almighty, Everlasting God, remember that Thine Only-begotten Son, our Divine Saviour Jesus Christ, hath made perfect satisfaction to Thy sacred justice for our sins, and hath merited for us the fulness of grace; and that He hath also promised us that Thou wouldest grant us whatsoever we should ask in His name. Grant, therefore, unto us, and unto all mankind, the graces necessary for our salvation, and also if it be Thy holy will, to live here on earth in peace and prosperity. Grant to me and to the faithful grace to rise from the grave of sin, and through the might of our risen Saviour to lead a Christian ife, and to fulfil the vows we

true joys are to be found, where Thou sittest on the right hand of the Father for evermore. Amen.

III.

HOLY GHOST, without Whom we are nothing, and can do nothing, come and with all Thy gifts and graces mercifully dwell in our souls. Drive away every spirit of error from our minds, and teach us to understand the truth, to love it with all our hearts, to freely confess it with our mouths, and to show it forth in our lives. Comfort us in sorrow and pain, strengthen us in all our contests and temptations: make clean and new hearts within us, and so lead us through this transitory world that we may in the world to come rejoice in Thy presence evermore; through Christ our Lord.

ciful God, Who hast created men in Thine image, and redeemed him with the precious Blood of Thine Onlybegotten Son, hear our pravers which we make before Thee for Thy holy Church, and for all mankind, in the deepest

humility, and with lowly trust in the mediation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Preserve defend, and govern Thy holy Church. Defend its ministers from false doctrine, and the appearance of false doctrine. Deliver Christendom from its divisions and variances, and from persecution. Keep us all in the unity of the faith and of love, that we may with one heart and one mind serve Thee, the only God.

Enlighten the enemies of the faith, that they may know the truth; destroy their prejudices, still their passions, and the blind hatred with which they persecute the truth; establish Thy kingdom, and let the glory of Thy Name be continually spread abroad.

Protect, O God, all earthly kings and princes; give them Christian wisdom and justice, that they may command what is right, and establish what is profitable. Plant in the hearts of princes thoughts of peace; give all nobles, ministers, and persons in authority justice, honesty, truth, and benevo lence, that evil may be repressed and good rewarded, vice punished, evil destroyed, and that which is best for all firmly established. Give all

subjects to honour and love their superiors, conscientiously to obey the laws of justice, and faithfully to fulfil their duties.

Bless, O Lord, our nation, our country, and all the nations and countries of the earth. Bless the fruits of the field; ward off pest, hunger, war, and all the evils we have merited. Grant sunshine and rain in their season. Grant us increase of all good 'things. Bless all Christian families; give to the heads of households concord and piety, uprightness in their vocation, and peace with those subject to them. Give children obedience, thankfulness, and respect towards their parents, and let the blessing of their parents be upon them. Give servants and labourers faithfulness and contentedness, and to all that are set over them justice, and care for the souls of their servants.

Be merciful, O God, to all men. Feed the poor, comfort the suffering, strengthen the sick. Take the children to Thy care: guide the young, protect the innocent, be with them in temptation. Be Thou the support of the aged, the refuge of the widow and orphan, the light of the dying. Bless our benefactors, friends,

and relations; have mercy upon our enemies and persecutors; change their hearts, and forgive them all they have done amiss.

Finally, have mercy upon the faithful departed; our superiors, benefactors, relations, and friends, and upon all who are commended to our prayers, and grant them everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LORD GOD of Hosts, Who hast ascended above the heavens, and led captivity captive, that Thou mightest glorify Thine Ascension, and

enrich with Thy promises the human race which Thou hast redeemed by Thy death, and quickened by Thy Résurrection grant to Thy Church peace, prosperity, and increase in holiness day by day; that the grace Thou hast given us may redound to Thy glory; and, the enemy being ov r come, we may both be delivered by Thy power, and glorified by Thy triumph; Who livest and reignet God, world without end. LORD, who can speak

of Thy power, or show forth all Thy praise? Thou didst come down to earth, and remainedst in Heaven; Thou art gone up to Heaven, and yet abidest with us. Everywhere Thou art, and everywhere all marvellous. Neither separated from the Father by Thine Incarnation in the flesli, nor separated from man by Thine Ascension into Heaven, Hear, O merciful God, the prayers of Thy people; and as Thou, by Thine Ascension, art glorified on high, so pour down upon us Thy grace on the earth.
