surrection on the third day didst restore our fallen race, raise me, sunken in sin, and give me means of repentance. Thou Who by Thy glorious Ascension hast raised our flesh to the throne of God, and placed it on the right hand of the Father, grant me by the

Thee, gracious Lord, forgive me all the sins I have committed, in thought, word, and deed; in pride, anger, envy, covetousness, gluttony, sloth, luxury, impurity of body or soul, in the ill use of those senses which Thou gavest me for Thy service, and in breaking

reception of the sacred Mys-Thy commandments, in wast

teries to be placed on Thy right hand among the saved. Thou Who by the indwelling of the Holy Ghost, the Paraclete, hast made Thy holy disciples to be honourable vessels of Thy grace, grant me also the indwelling of Thy Holy Spirit. Thou Who wilt come again to judge the world in righteousness, mercifully grant me, with all Thy Saints, to meet Thee, my Creator, in the clouds of heaven. that I may eternally bless and praise Thee, with the Father, and the all-holy, good, life-giving Spirit, now and for ever, and to all ages of ages. Amen.

BOUNTIFUL JESUS, Who vouchsafedst to suffer so many grievous pains, yea, death itself, for the love of mankind, and sparedst not Thy own most precious Blood that Thou mightest wash away our sins: how great and wonderful is Thy love. I beseech

ing the time of my life unprofitably, in not following after holiness, and in not doing those good deeds which I might have done. O merciful Jesus, with that precious Blood which Thou didst shed upon the Cross for my salvation, wash away all the sins of which I have been guilty since my birth. Heal, strengthen, and revive me by this Holy Sacra ment, which Thou hast or. dained and left here on earth, to be our medicine and life, through which we are to live in Thee, and Thou art to live in us, as Thou Thyself hast assured us when Thou saidst, The bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. O holy Priest and Bishop of our souls, Who by Thy Divine power didst institute this Blessed Sacrament of Thy precious Body, in the form of bread, give me grace to receive it this day with

purity of heart and soul, with love, reverence, and a firm belief. O bountiful God, I acknowledge and confess to Thy infinite goodness, that I am not worthy to come to Thy table, to be fed with the Royal food of Thy Blessed Body. But, gracious Lord, if Thou wilt Thou canst make me clean. Thou hast created all things out of nothing, and Thou canst change what is sinful into that which is righteous and holy. Therefore, O Almighty God, according to the multitude of Thy mercies, make me worthy to receive Thy precious Body. Let me approach this sacred Mystery with reverence, meek ness, holiness, with perfect contrition and tears of devotion, with spiritual comfort, and joy in Thy Presence. Replenish me, O Lord, with grace, and strengthen me that I may henceforth for ever live in Thee and Thou in me. Jesu, save me, through Thy great bounty, from all perils; teach and comfort my soul in all doubts and fears; cleanse me from all vices; suffer nothing to abide in my heart but only Thyself, Who art my soul's life and my Lord.

O Blessed Jesu, make me worthy to receive this great Sacrament

of Thy precious Body, that I may live everlastingly with Thee, and see Thee face to face in Thy celestial Kingdom. Amen.

PRAY Thee, O most merciful Jesu, that Thou wouldest teach me and assist me to approach the most wonderful Sacrament of Thy Body and Blood, with such purity of heart, and innocence of mind, with such devotion, and reverence, as is right and good for my soul. May my heart feel, O Lord Jesu Christ, the sweetness of Thy most blessed Presence. May it purge me from all spiritual sloth, wash away my sins, and be a protection to me against the countless dangers of the world. May my soul taste at this time how sweet Thou art, O Lord, that having tasted Thee, it may lose all taste for earthly things. O Bread of Delight, O Food most to be desired, refreshing all things, and never failing, the angels and spirits of the just receive Thee to the full: Grant that my sinful soul, too, may now receive Thee during her pilgrimage, that receiving strength from Thee, by Thee she may accomplish her course to Thee, without any hindrance of Satan. Mor

tify in my members and in my heart all temptations of the flesh, that Thou, the King of Virgins and lover of chastity, mayest have in me a quiet resting-place. Thou knowest, O Lord, in how many and how great storms my soul is tossed; but Thou, Who art the Great Physician, come and heal it; to Whom all power and dominion is given in heaven and in earth, for ever and ever, Amen.

pardon to the guilty, forgiveness to the sinner, pity to the wretched, life to the criminal, and justification to him that is dead in sin, that I may receive Thee, the Bread of Angels, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, with such purity of body, such holiness of soul, such contrition, such tears, such spiritual joy and heavenly rejoicing, such fear and trembling, such reverence and honour, such faith and humility, such a purpose, such

that Thou shouldest

come under my roof, but, trusting in Thy mercy, I come to Thine Altar. Weak, to the medicine of life; blind, to the light of eternal lightness; poor, to the Lord of heaven and earth; naked, to the King of Glory; a sheep to the Shepherd; a creature to the Creator; desolate to the merciful Consoler; miserable to the merciful; guilty to the Giver of life; wicked to Him Who justifieth us; hardened to Him Who giveth grace; praying Thee of the greatness of Thy mercy so to heal my depravity, wash away my wickedness, lighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, clothe my nakedness, so to bring home the wanderer, to console the desolate, to give

thankfulness as I ought, and as may assist me to obtain pardon of my sins, and everlasting life. Amen.

GOD, Infinite Goodness,

Who am I that I should dare to speak to Thee? I am but the least of Thy servants, a worm of earth, much poorer and more contemptible than I can know or dare to confess; yet remember, O Lord, that I am nothing, have nothing, and can do nothing. Thou only art good, just, and holy. Thou canst do all things, Thou rulest all things, and fillest all things, leaving only the sinner void. Remember Thy mercies, O God, and fill my heart with Thy grace, Thou Who wouldest not that Thy creatures should

perish. Turn not Thy face away from me, delay not Thine assistance, take not away Thy consolations, lest my soul become as a land wherein is no water. Give me the dew of devotion to water my soul, to bring forth good and acceptable fruit. Enlighten my mind, oppressed with the weight of sin, and lift up my heart to heaven; that, having tasted of the sweetness of the happiness above, I may care no more for earthly things; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

KING of Heaven and

earth; Holy, holy, holy; King, at Whose Name every knee doth bow, dost Thou come to me, who am dust and ashes? dost Thou invite me, Thy poor and humble servant? Thou, the light of eternal lightness, comest to me, who adding iniquity to iniquity, have a thousand times crucified Thee to myself. The confusion of my face has covered me. O Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldest enter under my roof; I am not worthy to be called Thy Son, for I have sinned against heaven and before Thee, receiving Thy grace and Thy Sacrament

without profiting by them, and making Thee to serve with my sins. Yet, O Lord, if, on account of Thy great love, Thou desirest to enter my heart, do Thou, Lord, Who hast adorned the Heavens, make my heart sinless, that I be not ashamed. Look upon me, and have mercy upon me. O Jesu, have mercy upon me. Most sweet Jesu, do not condemn me, but save me; Who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen.

MOST merciful Saviour, Who hast given us Thy Body for food, and Thy Blood for drink, and Thy Life for our redemption, have mercy, have mercy upon me. me to receive the most holy Sacrament, If I come unprepared, I draw down Thy judg ment on myself. If Thou prepare me not, I strive to prepare myself in vain. Stretch forth Thy hand, O merciful Jesu, unto Thy servant, who putteth no trust in himself; give me by Thy Almighty power that which my weakness is unable to obtain. Make me a tabernacle for Thyself, prepared and garnished, where Thou mayest repose, and where the memorial of Thy marvels, Thy mercies, and Thy bitter

Passion, may evermore abide. Grant this, O merciful Saviour, Who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen.

MAY Thy Holy Body, O

Lord Jesu Christ our God, be unto me for everlasting life, and Thy Blood for the remission of my sins. And may this Eucharist be to me for grace, health, and rejoicing; and at Thy second dreadful Advent grant me, a sinner, to stand at the right hand of Thy glory. Amen.

I AM not worthy, O Lord

my God, that Thou shouldest enter under my roof; but since Thou, who art all merciful, desirest to dwell in me, I come to Thee in confidence. Bid those gates to be opened which Thou alone hast made, and enter into my heartwith Thy wonted mercy, Enter and lighten my darkened understanding. I believe. in deed, that Thou wilt do this.

Before going up to the Altar. MY God, my Help, my

Protector, I commend to Thee the preparation of my heart.
