formed by Thee, miserable though I am, do Thou receive me, O Christ, O Lover of souls, as Thou didst receive the harlot, the robber, the publican, and the lost, take away from me the heavy burden of my sins. Thou, that takest away the sins of the world, and healest the infirmities of men, Thou, who callest all to Thee who labour and are heavy laden, and givest them rest; Thou, who camest not to call the righteous but | sinners to repentance, cleanse me from every pollution of body and soul. Teach me to perfect holiness in the fear of Thee, that communicating of Thy holy mysteries, with a pure conscience, I may be united unto Thy true Body and Blood, and may have Thee to abide and dwell in me, with the Father and the Holy Spirit. So be it, Lord Jesu Christ, my God. Let not the reception of Thy pure and blessed mysteries bring condemnation upon me, nor let me become weak in either soul or body from an unworthy communion. grant me unto my latest breath to be a blameless partaker of Thy holy Mysteries, that I may attain to the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, to the entry into everlasting life, and

to an acceptable confession before Thy dread Judgmentseat; so that I, with all Thine elect, may be partakers of those good things, which eye hath not seen nor ear heard, which Thou hast prepared for them that love Thee; Who livest and reignest, world without end. Amen.

ALMIGHTY and Everlast

ing God, behold I come to the Sacrament of Thine Only-begotten Son Jesus Christ. I come sick to the medicine of life; impure, to the fount of mercy; blind, to the light of eternal brightness; poor and needy, to the Lord of heaven and earth. I pray Thee, of the immense abundance of Thy bounty, so to heal my weakness, wash away my foulness, lighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness, that I may receive the Bread of Angels, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, with such reverence and humility, with such contrition and devotion, with such purity and faith, with such a purpose and intention, as shall be profitable to my soul. Grant me, I pray, not only to receive the Sacrament of the Lord's Body and Blood, but also the essence and the strength

of the Sacrament. O most merciful God, grant me so to receive the Body of Thine Only-begotten Son Jesus Christ, which He took of the Virgin Mary, that I may be incorporated in His mystical body and be numbered amongst His members. O most loving Father, grant me at length to see face to face, eternally, Thy beloved Son, Whom now hidden I hope to receive on my way: Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, and in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

LORD JESU CHRIST, I a sinner, trusting not in my own merits, but in Thy mercy and goodness, fear and tremble to approach the table of Thy most sweet banquet. For I have a heart and body stained with many faults, a mind and tongue not duly guarded. Therefore, O merciful Divinity, O terrible Majesty, I wretched man, involved in difficulties, come to Thee the fount of mercy, haste to Thee to be healed, and fly to Thee for protection, Whom I cannot face as my Judge. To Thee, O Lord, I show my wounds, to Thee I uncover my shame. I know my sins are many and great, and for them

Remember Thy creature, O Lord, whom Thou hast redeemed with Thy Blood. I repent of my sins, I intend to amend. Take away from me, most merciful Father, all my iniquities and sins, that being made pure in mind and body, I may fitly receive the Holy of Holies: And grant that this Holy Communion of Thy Body and Blood, which I, though unworthy, intend to receive, may be the pardon of my sins, the perfect purification of my faults, the putting to flight of shameful thoughts, the regeneration of my better feelings, the saving cause of good works pleasing to Thee, and the most firm defence of my soul and body against

the deceits of my enemies. Amen.

My Lord, how good

Thou art. Blessed be Thou for ever. May all things praise Thee, O my God, for that Thou hast so loved us as to afford our souls communion with Thee even in this place of exile. How great, O God, is Thy bounty and Thy munificence; for indeed, Ŏ God, Thou givest unto us according to what Thou art. O Infinite Goodness, how magnificent are Thy works: when I think thereupon they more in number than are able to express. Hast Thou cast my sins out of remembrance, O God, that Thou puttest this precious gift into such a broken vessel, when Thou hast seen so often already how I squander and waste Thy gifts. Wilt Thou entrust such a treasure. O God, unto one who is not free, as he should be from all desires after the pleasures of this life? Wilt Thou give it into the keeping of one who at the first attack betrays all to the enemy? Is Thy love so great, Eternal King, that Thou wilt adventure such precious things to the charge of one so wanton, so base, so weak, so miserable,

and so careless? Thou art not wont, O God, to give such favours and mercies to our souls, except for their great good. I pray Thee, therefore, O God, with all my heart and with all my will, as I have prayed before, that I may prefer the loss of the greatest good I have on earth, to the loss of the benefit of this Communion, and that I may make use of it so as to please Thee, and to Thy glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LORD, alone sinless, and all holy, Who, through the ineffable mercy of Thy love, didst take upon Thee our humble nature of the pure blood of the Virgin, who marvellously bore Thee by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost, and the will of the invisible Father; O Christ Jesu, wisdom, peace, and might of God, Who with much labour didst endure Thy lifegiving and saving Passion, the Cross, the nails, the lance, and death, mortify in me my deadly passions. Thou Who by death hast spoiled death, bury my evil counsel with holy thoughts, and scatter the spirits of evil from me. Thou Who by Thy life-giving 1e
