3 When stronger souls their faith forsook, And, lulled in worldly, hellish peace, Leap'd desperate from their guardian-rock, And headlong plung'd in sin's abyss, Thy strength was in our weakness shown, And still it guards and keeps Thine own. 4 All are not lost, or wander'd back;

All have not left Thy Church and Thee:
There are who suffer for Thy sake,
Enjoy Thy glorious infamy,
Esteem the scandal of the cross,
And only seek divine applause.

5 Thou who hast kept us to this hour,
O keep us faithful to the end!
When, robed with majesty and pow'r,
Our JESUS shall from heav'n descend,
His friends and confessors to own,
And seat us on His glorious throne.

"Come in, thou blessed."
Gen. xxiv. 31.

L.M.

BRETHREN in CHRIST, and well-belov'd,

and His servants dear,

Enter, and show yourselves approv'd;
Enter, and find that GOD is here.

2 Welcome from earth: lo! the right hand
Of fellowship to you we give!
With open hearts and hands we stand,
And you in JESUS' name receive.

3 Say, are your hearts resolved as ours?
Then let them burn with sacred love:
Then let them taste the heav'nly powers,
Partakers of the joys above.

4 JESUS, attend, Thyself reveal!
Are we not met in Thy great name?
Thee in the midst we wait to feel,
We wait to catch the spreading flame.
5 Thou GOD that answerest by fire,
The SPIRIT of burning now impart;
And let the flames of pure desire
Rise from the altar of our heart.

6 Truly our fellowship below,

With Thee and with the FATHER is
In Thee eternal life we know,

And heaven's unutterable bliss.

7 In part we only know Thee here,
But wait Thy coming from above,
And we shall then behold Thee near,
And we shall all be lost in love.

shall prosper."-Isa. liv. 17.

:

8, 7, 6

EAREST friends, by CHRIST united,
Love divine hath made us one;
By the world we may be slighted,
Prized and lov'd by GoD alone;
Yet we're hoping

Each to wear a glorious crown.

2 Though the Tempter, like a lion,
Ever hunts us as his prey,
CHRIST will safely lead to Zion
All who do His laws obey:
Naught can harm us,

While we humbly watch and pray.

3 In the heavenly way, though stormy,
Onward will we ever run,

Shortly death will end our journey,
JESUS then will say, "Well done!"—
Angels shouting,

"Welcome to your heavenly throne!"
4 "Welcome, welcome, happy spirit!"
All the heavenly throng will say;
CHRIST will bid us then inherit
Kingdoms, crowns, and endless day:
In bright mansions

We shall with Him ever stay.

367 "My refuge in the day of affliction."

Jer. xvi. 19.

JESUS, o to Thy bosom fly;
ESUS, lover of my soul,

While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high:
2 Hide me, O my SAVIOUR, hide,
Till the storm of life be past;
Safe into the haven guide,
O receive my soul at last!

3 Other refuge have I none,

Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.

4 All my trust on Thee is stayed;
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenceless head

With the shadow of Thy wing.

Ts.

5 Plenteous grace with Thee is found,
Grace to conquer ev'ry sin;
Let the healing streams abound,
That we may be pure within.

6 Thou of life the fountain art,
Freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart,
Rise to all eternity.

368 "The Zion of the Holy One of Israel."

Isa. lx. 14.

NO earthly city can compare

L.M

With Zion, when her LORD is there!
Her gifts like golden turrets rise;
Her fervent graces reach the skies.

2 Her stately walls are girt with pow'r,
Safety and strength compose her tow'r:
Firm on a rock her palace stands,
The glory of the Builder's hands.

3 A river, full of peace and love,
For ever flowing from above,
Makes her inhabitants rejoice,

And tunes with praise each mourner's voice.

4 Faith, like an eagle from her nest,
Mounts up in search of heav'nly rest;
And love, like incense from the fire,
Ascends in flames of strong desire.
5 Patience, that long enduring, still
Submissive waits JEHOVAH's will;
And lively hope, that lifts her head
Beyond the regions of the dead.

6 Here all the heaven-born sons of grace
Proclaim the King of Zion's praise;
Whose precious name, from ev'ry tongue,
Flows on in one delightful song.

EE, my soul, a structure rising
From the wreck of Adam's race;
'Midst ten thousand foes, despising,
"Tis the work of sovereign grace:
Blessed temple,

Here JEHOVAH shows His face.

2 By eternal love contrived,

Built with precious polished stones,
All its glory is derived

8,7,4

From the blood which there atones:
In this temple

GOD Himself our worship owns.

8 Here's the ark, the priest, and altar,
Incense, bread, and holy fire;
Sacrifice for each defaulter;

All that God and heaven require :
Sacred temple,

GOD and man thy walls admire.

4 Oh! my soul, art thou united
To the temple of the LORD?
Then He is in thee delighted,
And thou shalt His love record:
In His temple

Be His holy name adored.
