306 de together in unity. Ps. cxxxiii. 1. L.M.

"How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to

UNCHANGEABLE, ALMIGHTY LORD,

Our souls upon Thy truth we stay ;
Accomplish now Thy faithful word,
And give, O give us all one way!

2 O let us all join hand in hand,

Who seek redemption in Thy blood;
Fast in one mind and spirit stand,
And build the temple of our God.

3 Speak but the reconciling word,

The wind shall cease, the wave subside;
We all shall praise our common LORD,
Our JESUS, and Him crucified.

4 We all shall think and speak the same
Delightful lesson of Thy grace;
One undivided CHRIST proclaim,
And jointly glory in Thy praise.
50 let us take a softer mould,

Blended and gather'd into Thee;
Under one Shepherd make one fold,
Where all is love and harmony!

6 Regard Thine own eternal prayer,
And send a peaceful answer dowL
To us Thy Father's name declare;
Unite and perfect us in one!

7 So shall the world believe and know,
That God hath sent Thee from above,
When Thou art seen in us below,
And ev'ry soul displays Thy love.

"The Lord hath done great things for us,
whereof we are glad."-Ps. cxxvi. 3.

GOD of love, that hearest prayer,

Kindly for Thy people care,

Who on Thee alone depend;
Love us, save us to the end.

2 Save us, in the prosp'rous hour,
From the flatt'ring tempter's pow'r,
From his unsuspected wiles,
From the world's pernicious smiles.

3 Cut off all dependance vain
On the help of feeble man;
Ev'ry arm of flesh remove;
Stay us on Thy only love!

4 Men of worldly, low design,
Let not these Thy people join,
Poison our simplicity,

Drag us from our trust in Thee.

5 Save us from the great and wise,
Till they sink in their own eyes,
Tamely to Thy yoke submit,
Lay their honours at Thy feet.

6 Never let the world break in;
Fix a mighty gulf between :
Keep us little and unknown,
Priz❜d and lov'd by GoD alone.

7 Let us still to Thee look up,
Thee, Thy Israel's Strength and Hope,
Nothing know, or seek, beside
JESUS, and Him crucified.

8 Far above all earthly things, Look we down on earthly kings; Taste our glorious liberty;

Find our happy all in Thee!

"With one accord in prayer.”
Acts i. 14.

L.M.

THOU, our Husband, Brother, Friend,
Behold a cloud of incense rise!
The prayers of saints to heav'n ascend,
Grateful, accepted sacrifice!

2 Regard our prayers for Sion's peace;
Shed in our hearts Thy love abroad;
Thy gifts abundantly increase;
Enlarge, and fill us all with GOD.

8 Before Thy sheep, great Shepherd, go,
And guide into Thy perfect will;
Cause us Thy hallow'd name to know,
The work of faith in us fulfil.

4 Help us to make our calling sure;
O let us all be saints indeed,
And pure as Thou Thyself art pure,
Conform'd in all things to our Head.

309" The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous

man availeth much."-James v. 16.

C.M.

A RIGHTEOUS man in fervent prayer,

Availeth much with GOD:

For so the FATHER doth declare,
Throughout His holy word.

2 Elias was a man of GOD;
Of passions such as we;
He did in fervent prayer prevail,
With God the eternal Three.

3 He pleaded fervently with GOD,
To shut the heavens up;

He pray'd in faith, his prayer was heard,
Aud so it rained not.

4 And after three years and six months,
Elias prayed again;

His prayer was heard, and answer'd too,
And God sent down the rain.

5 Then, brethren, you've no need to fear,
That mighty God's the same;

He now will answer fervent prayer,
Through faith in JESUS' name.

"He is altogether lovely."
Cant. v. 16.

DISCLOSE Thy lovely face!
Quicken all my drooping powers!
Gasps my fainting soul for grace,
As a thirsty land for showers:
Haste, my LORD, no more delay!
Come, my SAVIOUR, come away.
2 Dark and cheerless is the morn,
Unaccompanied by Thee!
Joyless is the day's return,

Till Thy mercy's beams I see;
Till Thou inward light impart,
Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.

"We have left ali, and have followed Thee." Mark x. 28.

JESUS, I my cross have taken,

All to leave, and follow Thee; Naked, poor, despis'd, forsaken, Thou, from hence, my all shalt be; Perish ev'ry fond ambition,

8's & Ta

All I've sought, or hoped, or known, Yet how rich is my condition,

GOD and heav'n are still my own!

2 Let the world despise and leave me;
They have left my SAVIOUR too;
Human hearts and looks deceive me-
Thou art not, like them, untrue;
And whilst Thou shalt smile

upon me,
GOD of wisdom, love, and might,
Foes may hate, and friends disown me:
Show Thy face, and all is bright.

3 Go, then, earthly fame and treasure,
Come disaster, scorn, and pain,
In Thy service pain is pleasure,
With Thy favour loss is gain.
I have call'd Thee, ABBA, FATHER,
I have set my heart on Thee,
Storms may howl, and clouds may gather,
All must work for good to me.

4 Man may trouble and distress me,

"Twill but drive me to Thy breast, Life with trials hard may press me, Heav'n will bring me sweeter rest.
