8 Let us, then, as brethren love,
Faithfully His gifts improve,
Carry on the earnest strife,
Walk in holiness of life;

4 Still forget the things behind,
Follow CHRIST in heart and mind,
T'wards the mark unwearied press,
Seize the crown of righteousness.

5 Plead we thus for faith alone,
Faith which by our works is shown;
GOD it is who justifies ;

Only faith the grace applies;—

6 Active faith that lives within,
Conquers earth, and hell, and sin,
Sanctifies, and makes us whole,
Forms the SAVIOUR in the soul.

7 Let us for this faith contend;
Sure salvation is its end:
Heav'n already is begun,
Everlasting life is won.

8 Only let us persevere,

Till we see our LORD appear;
Never from the Rock remove;

Sav'd by faith, which works by love.

"I live by the faith of the Son of God."
Gal. ii. 20.

C.M.

SIGHT, hearing, feeling, taste, and smell, gifts we highly prize;

But faith doth singly each excel,
And all the five comprise.

2 More piercing than the eagle's sight,
Faith views the worlds unknown,
Surveys the glor'ous realms of light,
And JESUS on the throne.

3 It hears the mighty voice of God,
And ponders what He saith;
His word, and works, His gifts and rod,
Have each a voice to faith.

4 It feels the touch of heav'nly pow'r,
And from that boundless source
Derives fresh vigour ev'ry hour,
To run its daily course.

5 The truth and goodness of the LORD
Are suited to its taste;

Mean is the worldling's festive board
To faith's perpetual feast.

6 It smells, the dear REDEEMER's name,
Like ointment poured forth;
Faith only knows, or can proclaim,
Its savour or its worth.

"Good hope through grace."

2 Thess. ii. 16.

OPE is a taste begun,

HOPE

Of great JEHOVAH's grace;

Reveal'd in JESUS CHRIST the Son,
To all the chosen race.

Hope is a lively act

Of JESUS' life within,

And grounded in the gospel fact,
That JESUS died for sin.

Hope purifies the heart

Through JESUS' cleansing blood;
Performs, like faith, a saving part,
Beneath the throne of GOD.

Good hope expects to meet
In CHRIST a rich supply,

And humbly waits around His seat,
With holy peace and joy.

Through grace good hope abides,
And shields us from despair;
Yields cordials to the heart besides,
And helps the saints in prayer.
6 Hope comforts through the cross,
Speaks sweetly of the LAMB;
And gospel hope will suffer loss,
To serve the great I AM.

"I will hope continually."
Ps. lxxi. 14.

HOPE is the anchor of the soul,

A grace of heav'nly birth;

When tempests rage and billows roll,
We learn its use and worth.

2 Our strength and fortitude may droop,
And refuge seem to fail;

But we are still upheld by hope,
Which looks within the vail.

3 When heavier storms assail us here,
And darken all our way,

Hope sees the distant skies are clear,
And waits a glor'ous day.

C.M.

4 In all our troubles may we wait,
And meekly kiss the rod;
Deliv'rance never comes too late
To those who hope in God.

THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.

"Sin is a reproach to any people."
Prov. xiv. 34.

I'M gloss to walk in wisdom's way;

glad I ever saw the day

My grief is gone, my sins depart,
I've love and joy within

Chorus.

my heart.

Happy day, happy day!

L.M.

When JESUS wash'd my sins away;
He taught me how to watch and pray,
And live rejoicing every day:

Happy day, happy day!

When JESUS wash'd my

sins away.

2 Bless God for what He's done for me;
Once I was blind, but now I see;
O'er ruin's brink I almost fell:
Glory to God, I'm out of hell!

Happy day, &c.

3 Come, sinner, come along with me,
If good and happy thou would'st be;
Thy sins confess, repent, believe,
And peace and pardon now receive.
Happy day, &c.

4 0 do not tarry longer here,
In darkness, enmity, and fear;
We'll show to you a better way,
In which you're sure to win the day.
Happy day, &c.

142 "Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well

with him."-Isa. iii. 10.

P.M.

COME, saints and sinners, hear me tell

The wonders of IMMANUEL,
Who sav'd me from a burning hell,
And brought my soul with Him to dwell,
And gave me heav'nly union.

2 When JESUS saw me from on high,
Beheld my soul in ruin lie,

He look'd on me with pitying eye,
And said to me as He pass'd by:
"With GOD you have no union."
3 Then I began to weep and cry;
I look'd this way and that to fly;
It griev'd me sore that I must die;
I strove salvation then to buy:
But still I had no union.

4 But when I hated all my sin,
My dear REDEEMER took me in
And with His blood He wash'd me clean;
And, oh! what seasons have I seen

Since first I felt this union!

5 I prais'd the LORD both night and day,
And went from house to house to pray;
And if I met one on the way,
I often had something to say,
About this heavenly union.
