Intercessory Prayers.

For the Church and for GOD's Work.

UCHSAFE, we beseech Thee, Almighty GOD, to pour upon Thy whole Church increased gifts of the HOLY GHOST; grant to her unity, peace, and concord, both visible and invisible; send down upon her a larger measure of Thy grace, that we all being One, and partaking of that One Bread, CHRIST our LORD, may carry out the Divine plan, and make the kingdoms of the world the Kingdom of our LORD and of His CHRIST: especially we pray Thee that Thou wouldest send Thy HOLY SPIRIT upon the Church and Clergy of this Parish, and so guide it and endue them with the power of the HOLY GHOST, that Thy Word, spoken by their mouths, may have such success that it may never be spoken in vain.

Grant Thy heavenly blessing upon all the work for Thee undertaken in this Parish, whether for body or soul, and bring it, in Thine own time, to good effect. Grant to the workers singleness of motive, faith, patience, and perseverance. Send Thy blessing upon all Guilds

and Societies in this Parish, keep all the Members pure, draw them all to Thee, help them to serve Thee, to do Thy work, and to bring glory to Thy Name. Hear our prayers, O FATHER, for the sake of JESUS CHRIST, our only LORD and SAVIOUR. Amen.

For the Parish Priest.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, the great High Priest, look graciously upon him whom Thou hast appointed to be Priest of this Parish, and, as Thou hast called him to the office, endow him with strength to carry out the duties of it. Enable him, by the power of the HOLY GHOST, to build up the faithful, to touch the indifferent, to recall the wandering, to draw the worldly, to bind up the broken-hearted, to console the suffering, to minister to the dying. Fill him with wisdom to meet difficulty, boldness to rebuke vice, zeal to fight against evil. Give him grace to bear the hatred of the world, and the discouragements of the half-hearted, in his efforts to lift up a higher standard of Life, and of Worship, and grant that, turning neither to the right hand nor to the left, he may go straightforward in Thy way, attain at last the heavenly goal, and bring his flock with him; for Thine own Name's sake. Amen.

For the Clergy and Parish.

LORD GOD, our Help and Strength, graciously look down on this Parish, and grant Thy merciful aid in all efforts to glorify Thee by work both for the bodies and souls of those in it. Be Thou in the hearts and on the

lips of the ministering Clergy, that they may boldly and lovingly speak Thy Truth, and, by their lives, shew forth the same.

Dispose the hearts of all Thy faithful people, of all classes and ranks, to assist heartily in the work; and as Thou hast called all, without respect of persons, to labour in Thy vineyard, let none reject Thy invitation, but enable them, by union of effort, to spread Thy Kingdom on the earth, and make Thy Name known amongst men. Through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

For the Faithful.

UCHSAFE, we beseech Thee, O LORD, [especially those in this Parish, and all others for whom we have promised to pray], to lift them still higher in the Christian life, and to give them grace to persevere unto the end. Through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

For those Living in Sin.

LMIGHTY GOD, we beseech Thee to hear our prayers for such as sin against Thee, or neglect to serve Thee, or have become cold in their love to Thee [especially those in this Parish, and others for whom our prayers are desired], that Thou wouldest vouchsafe to bestow upon them true repentance, an earnest desire to serve Thee, and a return to their first love. Through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

For the Members of any Guild or Society.

LORD, Who hast bidden us bear one another's burdens and pray for one another, bless, we beseech Thee, all the members of our Guild; keep us all pure, guide us in all our ways, strengthen us for good. Shew us some lowly work in Thy Church to fulfil for Thy sake. Give us grace to persevere in welldoing, and help us day by day to love Thee more and serve Thee better, until, being united in the Communion of Saints on earth, we may be brought to Thy Kingdom in Heaven. Through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

A General Intercession.

ALMIGHTY and Most Merciful GOD,
Who didst accept the intercessions of Thy

servant Moses for Thy people Israel, and by Thy holy Apostle St. Paul didst command that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men," look down in mercy on all those for whom I ought to pray; grant them the light of Thy HOLY SPIRIT to direct them in all their difficulties, the power of Thy HOLY SPIRIT to strengthen them against all their temptations; the consolations of Thy HOLY SPIRIT to support them in all their trials.

Look especially upon those for whom I have been desired to pray [here mention their names]. If they need strength, do Thou assist them by Thy grace; if they need defence and comfort, be Thou their shield and consolation; if they are in bitterness of spirit through poverty, through the sickness and necessities of those dear to them, send them help and deliverance; if they are entangled in temptations, make a way for them to escape; if, through the cares of the world, they have become deadened to better things, draw them strongly by Thy power, that they may run after Thee, and, having found Thee, may never again leave Thee. Grant these our prayers, O FATHER, for the sake of JESUS CHRIST, our only LORD and SAVIOUR. Amen.
