When the tapers are burnt, everything is scraped from the Altar by some priest. The scrapings are thrown into sacrarium. In the meantime B. says:

B. cum m. dips his thumb into the Chrism, intones Ant. Confirma, then anoints the middle of the front of Altar (in modum Crucis). Choir in the meantime continues:

Hoc, Deus, quod operatus es in nobis, a templo sancto tuo, quod est in Jerusalem, alleluja.

Ant. is not repeated. B. sine m.:

B. cum m. with Chrism joins the mensa of the Altar with the stipes first at the back corner of Gospel side, then at front of Gospel side; next at back of Epistle side and lastly at the front of Epistle side, saying each time:

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritussancti. (Non respondetur Amen.) B. sine m.

B. cum m. goes to his seat, purifies his fingers. The Altar is wiped with coarse cloths. Then follows Benediction of the altar cloths page 194, then Mass of the Dedicatio Altaris, then the Indulgences.

CONSECRATION OF AN ALTARSTONE.

This consecration can take place in the morning on any day and in any place.

Praeparanda.

In the place where the consecration is to take place: the Altarstone placed on a table, the Relics on another, holy water and sprinkler, a vessel with water, another sprinkler; another vessel with ashes, another with salt, another with wine, incense in grains and pulverized, Chrism and Oleum Catech., cotton, bread, ewer and basin, towels, cement and trowel, censer and boat, five small crosses made of wax taper, some small wooden spades, a vessel to receive the scrapings.

Function.

If the function is public B. is vested in amice, alb, cincture, white stole and cope, mitre. If private, B. wears white stole over the rochet, and mitre. B. cum m standing before stone:

Deum omnipotentem........... saecula saeculorum.

R. Amen.

B. sine m. kneels, says:

Deus in adjutorium meum intende.

B. rises. Choir answer:

Domine ad adjuvandum me festina.
B. Gloria Dei. Sicut erat.

This is done three times, each time in a higher tone of voice.

B. cum m. blesses the salt, water, etc. as on page 151 up to:

Omnipotens sempiterne Deus, creator, et conservator humani generis, etc. incl.

When ever the words Church and Altar are mentioned, only Altar is named.

B. cum m. dips his thumb into the water thus blessed and forms crosses on the stone in the following order:

Sanctificetur, et consecretur haec tabula. In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritussancti. Pax tibi.

B. cum m. intones Ant. Asperges me, then goes around the stone three times, sprinkling it. Choir continues:

Domine hyssopo, et mundabor; lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.

Ps. 50 Miserere mei Deus, etc. as on page 99, sine Gloria Patri. At the end Ant. is repeated. Stone is then wiped with a linen cloth. B. sine m.

Domine exaudi orationem meam.

R. Et clamor meus ad te veniat.
B. Dominus vobiscum.

R. Et cum spirito tuo.

B. sine m. blesses cement:

Domius vobiscum.

Oremus. Summe Deus, qui summa, et media, imaque custodis, qui omnem creaturam intrinsecus ambiendo concludis, sanctifica, et benedic has creaturas calcis et sabuli. Per Christum Dominum nostrum.

R. Amen.

B. cum m. puts in and blesses incense, receives censer, intones Ant. Dirigatur, then goes around the stone three times incensing it. Choir continues Ant.
