3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the fson of his old age: and he made him a coat of many coloars. g

4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated h him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren; and they hated him yet the more.

6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: 7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance i to my sheaf.

8 And his brethren said to him, Shal thou indeed reign over k us? or shal thou indeed have dominion over us? and they hated him yet the more for hi dreams, and for his words.

9 And he dreamed yet another dream and told it his brethren, and said, Behold I have dreamed a dream more; and, be hold, the sun, and the moon, and th eleven stars, made obeisance to me.

10 And he told it to his father, and to hi brethren: and his father rebuked him, an said unto him, What is this dream tha thou hast dreamed? Sball I and thy mo ther and thy brethren indeed come to bow down m ourselves to thee to the earth? 11 And his brethren envied o him; but his father pcbserved the saying.

12 And his brethren went to feed thei father's flock in Shechem.

AND it came to pass at that time, that

Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

4 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

5 Ánd she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him. 6 And Judah took a wife for Er his first born, whose name was Tamar.

7 And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto m thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his: and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

10 And the thing which he did 6 displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daugh inter-in-law. Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said. Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

10 Pharaoh was wroth j with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker.

11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I & he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. 12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreanis; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored Junto mine office, and him he hanged.

14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they 5 brought him hastily out of o the dungeon: And he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

15 And Pharaoh said unto q Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that 6 thou canst understand 7 a dream to interpret it:

16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.

17 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river: v

18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fat-fleshed and wellfavoured; and they fed in a meadow.

19 And, behold, seven other kine came Tup after them, poor, and very ill-favourod and lean-fleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:

20 And the lean and the ill-favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine: 21 And when they had 11 eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill-favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

22 And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:

23 And, behold, seven cars, 12 withered, thin, and blasted with the cast wind, sprung up after them:

24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears. And I told this unto the c magicians; but there was none

His brethren come into Egypt. Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.

48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities. the food of the field which was round about every city laid he up in the same. 49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, c very much, until he left numbering: for it was without number.

50 And unto Joseph were born two sons d before the years of famine came; which Asenath, the daughter of Poti-pherah 1 priest of On, bare unto him.

51 And Joseph called the name of the first-born 2 Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.

52 And the name of the second called he 3 Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful h in the land of my affliction. 53 And the seven years of plenteousness that was in the land of Egypt were ended. 54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: 7 and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, m the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharach said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.

56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth. And Joseph opened all the store-houses, and sold o unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.

57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands. CHAP. XLII.

NOW when p Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another? 2 And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may s live, and not die.

3 And Joseph's ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.

4 But Benjamin, Joseph's brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren: for he said, Lest peradventure mischief u befall him.

5 And the sons of Israel came to buy corn among those that came: for the fa mine was in the land of Canaan.

6 And Joseph was the governor y over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph's brethren came, and bowed down themselves be fore him with their faces to the earth. 7 And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake 13 roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ve? And they said, From the land of Canaan, to buy food.

8 And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.

9 And Joseph remembered the dreams. which he dreamied b of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the na kedness of the land ye are come.

10 And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants

come.
