DIRECT THE INTENTION.

SUNDAY.

O most Merciful God, incline Thy gracious ears to our prayers, and enlighten our hearts with the grace of Thy HOLY SPIRIT, that we may worthily celebrate Thy Holy Mysteries,

and love Thee with an everlasting love: through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

. Unto Thee, O LORD, will I pay my vows. R7. Yea, unto Thee will I give thanks. Our Father, &c.

O most Mighty and MercifulGOD, I, an unworthy sinner, desire to offer before Thee, and to receive into myself the Most Holy Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Thy Son JESUS CHRIST, to the praise and glory of Thy great Majesty-in Memorial of the most holy Life, Passion and Death of JESUS CHRIST my Saviour, in thankful remembrance of all Thy gifts and blessings bestowed upon me, and upon Thy Church [ -in propitiation for my numberless offences against Thy holy law [ for my own salvation, and for the salvation of [ -and for the consolation of those who are departed in Thy faith and fear [ 1. O GOD, in Thee alone can I find that which will satisfy the desire of my soul-Whom have I in Heaven but Thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire in comparison with Thee.

AN ACT OF CONTRITION.

MONDAY.

Examine your conscience carefully, and then say O most Merciful GOD, &c. (see page 11.)

. LORD, be merciful unto me.

R. Heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thee.

Our Father, &c.

I humbly offer unto Thee, O GOD, the sacrifice of a broken spirit in union with the Sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Thy Son, our LORD JESUS CHRIST. From my inmost heart I grieve that I should have offended Thee Who hast done such great things for me: especially that I should have offended Thee by [ ]&c., which Thou knowest, O Thou Searcher of hearts! In the bitterness of my soul, I, an unworthy sinner, lament and confess these my sins. Would that I had never offended Thee! but a humble and contrite heart, O GOD, Thou shalt not despise; Thou, Who in Thy love for us didst give Thine Only-begotten Son to cleanse us from our sins in His own Blood. For His sake, O GOD, be merciful to me a sinner.

AN ACT OF FAITH.

TUESDAY.

O most Merciful GOD, &c.

. Believest thou that I am able to do this? Ry. Yea, LORD, Thou knowest.

Our Father, &c.

O LORD JESU CHRIST, I firmly believe, and with a true faith confess, that Thou Thyself, equal to God the FATHER in glory and power,

True GOD and True Man, art really and truly present in this Holy Sacrament. Thou, Who art the Truth itself, hast said: "This is My Body, This is My Blood." I believe what the SON of GOD hath spoken-nothing is more true than the Word of Truth. And I believe that there cannot be a greater happiness than to receive Thee worthily, nor a greater unhappiness than to receive Thee unworthily. O LORD, help Thou mine unbelief, and increase my faith.

AN ACT OF HOPE.

WEDNESDAY.

O most Merciful God, &c.

V. The LORD is my Refuge and Defence. R. Because I have hoped in His Holy Name. Our Father, &c.

O LORD JESU CHRIST, I am dust and ashes, and a sinner, ofttimes, like Judas, betraying Thee, but Thou art the Father of mercies, and the GOD of all comfort. Who can number up Thy mercies? Dost Thou not call unto Thee the weary and heavy laden, that Thou mayest refresh them? Thou alone art my Refuge, Thou alone hast the words of eternal life, Thou alone canst comfort me in all my tribulation. I am weak and sick, but Thou art my health. The whole need not a Physician, but they that are sick. If the shadow only of S.

Peter passing by and overshadowing the sick relieved them, shalt not Thou, entering Thyself into my very body, and dwelling within me in the fulness of Thy Divinity, heal the weakness and sickness of my soul?

To Thee, O LORD, I come, in hope that this Holy Communion may increase in me Faith, Hope and Charity; that it may defend me from the snares of my spiritual enemies; that it may put to flight my evil thoughts [ out from me all sin [ in all virtue [

to me of future glory.

], root ], strengthen me ], and be a sure pledge O LORD, in Thee have

I trusted, let me never be confounded.

AN ACT OF LOVE.

THURSDAY.

O most Merciful God, &c.

. We love Him.

Ry. Because He first loved us.
Our Father, &c.

O most loving Saviour JESU CHRIST, how great was that love which drew Thee from the bosom of the FATHER, that Thou mightest take upon Thyself our nature, and undergo infinite torments and insults, and even the death of the Cross, for us men and for our salvation.

O how great was that love! Thou mightest have condemned us, but Thou wouldest rather
