19 For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore the Lord reward thee good for that thou haft done unto me this day.

20 And now behold, I know well that thou shalt furely be king, and that the kingdom of Ifrael fhall be eftablished in thine hand.

21 Swear now therefore unto me by the Lord, that thou wilt not cut off my feed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house.

3. And the battle went fore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was fore wounded of the archers.

4 Then faid Saul unto his armour-bearer, Draw thy fword, and thruft me through therewith; left these uncircumcifed come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armour-bearer would not; for he was fore afraid: therefore Saul took a fword, and fell upon it.

5 And when his armourbearer faw that Saul was dead, he fell likewife upon his fword, and died with him.

6 So Saul died, and his three fons, and his armourun-bearer, and all his men that fame day together.

22 And David fware to Saul and Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold.

CHIA P. XXXI. OW the Philiftines fought against Ifrael: and the men of Ifrael fled from before the Philiftines, and fell down flain in mount Gilboa.

2 And the Philiftines followed hard upon Saul, and upon his fons and the Philiftines flew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-fhuah, Saul's fons.

7¶ And when the men of Ifrael that were on the other fide of the valley, and they that were on the other. fide Jordan, faw that the men of Ifrael filed, and that Saul and his fons were dead, they forfook the cities, and fled: and the Philiftines came and dwelt in them.

8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philiftines came to strip the flain, that they found Saul and his three fons fallen in mount Gilboa.

9 And they cut off his head,

head, and ftripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philiftines round about, to publish it in the houfe of their idols, and among the people.

10 And they put his armour in the houfe of Afhtaroth and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethfhan.

12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his fons, from the wall of Beth-fhan, and came to Jabefh, and burnt them there.

13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabeh, and fafted seven days.

CHAP. I. OW it came to pafs after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the flaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;

2 It came even to pafs on the third day, that behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head and fo it was when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeifance.

3 And David faid unto him, From whence comeft thou? And he faid unto him, Out of the camp of Ifrael am I escaped.

4 And David faid unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And

he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people alfo are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his fon are dead alfo.

5 And David faid unto the young man that told him, How knoweft thou that Saul and Jonathan his fon be dead?

6 And the young man that told him, faid, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his fpear: and lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

7. And when he looked behind him, he faw me, and called unto me: and I anfwered here am I.

10 So I ftood upon him, and flew him, becaufe I was fure that he could not live, after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord.

11 Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them, and likewise all the men that were with him.

16 And David faid unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head: for thy mouth hath teftified against thee, faying, I have flain the Lord's anointed.

17 And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul, and over Jonathan his fon,

18 (Alfo he bade them teach the children of Judah, the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jafher.)

19 The beauty of Ifrael is flain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!

5 And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he faid to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing fhall furely die.

6 And he fhall refore the lamb four-fold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus faith the Lord God of Ifrael, I anointed thee king over Ifrael, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

18 And it came to pass on the feventh day, that the child died: and the fervants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they faid, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we fpake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

19 But when David faw that his fervants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David faid unto his fervants, Is the child dead? And they faid, He is dead.

20 Then David arofe from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped then he came
