ORDER OF THE BURIAL OF THE DEAD. The Priest vested in surplice, black stole, and black cope, with clerks bearing Cross and Holy water meets the corpse either at the house of the deceased, or at the entrance to the Church, or at the Cemetery gates. Standing at its feet, he sprinkles it with Holy water, and then says the following: In less solemn funerals the body is carried at once into the Church, or to the side of the grave. Ant. Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord: Lord, hear my voice. Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities, Lord, who shall stand it? The body is then borne into the Church: meanwhile the Priest intones or recites the following antiphon, and the choir or attendants chant or recite the Psalm. In less solemn funerals this Psalm is often omitted. Ant. Exultabunt Ant. The bones Domino ossa humi- that have been humliata. bled shall rejoice in the Lord. Psalm 1. Have mercy on me, Psalmus 1.
