Turning towards the People, the Priest

says,

COLLECT.-O almighty and everlasting God, who hast granted thy ser vants, in the confession of the true faith, to acknowledge the glory of an Eternal Trinity, and in the power of majesty to adore an Unity, we beseech thee, that by the strength of this faith, we may be defended from all adversity. Thro'.

* II. COLLECT.-Preserve us, O Lord, we beseech thee, from all dangers of body and soul: and by the intercession of glorious and blessed Mary, the ever Virgin Mother of God, of the blessed apostles Peter and Paul, of blessed N, and of all the saints, grant us in thy mercy, health and peace; that all adversities and errors being removed, thy Church may serve thee with a pure and undisturbed devotion.

This Collect, with its corresponding Secret and Postcommunion, is said in the Masses both of the Season and of the Saints, (Doubles and within Octaves excepted) from Candlemas Day to Passion Sunday, and from Trinity

EPIST. Rom. xi. 33. O the depth of the riches of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehen sible are his judgments, and how un searchable are his ways! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath> first given to him, and recompense shall be made him? For of him, and thro'i him, and in him, are all things. To him be honour and glory. Amen.

R. Thanks be to God.

GRADUAL. Dan. iii.-Blessed art thon, O Lord, who beholdest the deep, and sittest on the cherubim. V. Blessed art thou, O Lord, in the firmament of heaven, and worthy of praise for ever Alleluia, Alleluia. V. Blessed art thou, O Lord, the God of our Fathers, and worthy of praise for ever. Alleluia. Then bowing down over the Altar, the Priest says,

CLEANSE my heart and my lips, O Almighty God, who didst cleanse the lips of the prophet Isaiah with a burning coal, and vouchsafe, through thy gracious mercy, so to purify me, that I may worthily proclaim thy holy Gospel. Thro' Christ our Lord. Amen.

May the Lord be in my heart, and on

GOSPEL. Matt. xxviii. 18. 20. At that time Jesus said to his disciples: All power is given to me in heaven and on earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations: baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and behold I am with you all days, even to the end of the world.

R. Praise be to thee, O Christ.

Here the Priest kisses the Gospel, saying: May our sins be blotted out by the words of the Gospel.
