Oremus. Let us pray.
GOD, whose property it is always to have

mercy and to spare, receive our petitions; that we, and all thy servants, who are bound by the chain of sin, may, by the compassion of thy goodness, mercifully be absolved. HEAR, we beseech thee, O Lord, the prayers of Althy suppliants, and pardon us our sins, who confess them to thee; that of thy bounty, thou mayest grant us pardon and peace. OUT of thy clemency, O Lord, shew us thy un

speakable mercy; that so thou mayest both acquit us of our sins, and deliver us from the punishment we deserve for them. O GOD, who by sin art offended, and by penance

pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of thy people, who make supplications to thee; and turn away the scourges of thy anger, which we deserve for our sins. DALMIGHTY and Eternal God, have mercy

on thy servant N, our chief Bishop, and direct him according to thy clemency, in the way of everLasting salvation ; that, by thy grace, he may desire the things that are agreeable to thy will, and perform them with all his strength.

GOD, from whom are all holy desires, righteous

counsels, and just works, give to thy servants that peace which the world cannot give; that our hearts being disposed to keep thy commandments, and the fear of enemies taken away, the times, by thy protection, may be peaceable. TNFLAME, O Lord, our reins and hearts with the

fire of thy holy spirit; to the end we may serve thee with a chaste body, and please thee with a clean heart.

GOD, the Creator and Redeemer of all the

faithful, give to the souls of thy servants departed the remission of all their sins; that, by pious supplications they may obtain the pardon they have always desired. PREVENT, we beseech thee, O Lord, our actions

by thy holy inspirations, and carry them on by thy gracious assistance; that every prayer and work of ours may always begin from thee, and by thee be happily ended.

ALMIGHTY and Eternal God, who hast doV minion over the living and the dead, and art merciful to all, whom thou knowest will be thine by faith and good works: we humbly beseech thee that they, for whom we have purposed to offer our prayers, whether the present world still retains them in the flesh, or the next world hath already received them divested of their bodies, may by the clemency of thine own goodness, and the intercession of thy saints, obtain pardon and full remission of their sins, Thro'. R. Amen.

V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. V. May the almighty and merciful Lord graciously hear us. R. Amen. V. And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of Cod, rest in peace. R. Amen. ,

EPISTLE, Ephes. iv. 7. 13. - Brethren: To every one of us is given grace, according to the measure of the giving of Christ. Wherefore he saith: “ Ascending on high he led captivity captive: he gave gifts to man.” Now that he ascended, what is it, but because he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended, is the same also that ascended above all the heavens, that he inight fill all things. And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and other some evangelists, and other some pastors and doctors, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edi. fying of the body of Christ: until we all meet into the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the age of the fulness of Christ.

GOSPEL. John xvii. 1. 11.- At that time : Jesus lifting up his eyes to heaven, said : Father, the hour is come, glorify thy Son, that thy Son may glorify thee. As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he may give eternal life to all, whom thou hast given him. Now this is eternal life; that they may know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do: and now glorify thou me, o Father, with thyself with the glory which I had, before the world was, with thee. I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou hast given me out of the world. Thine they were, and to me thou gavest them: and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things which thou last given me are from thec: because the worls which thou garest me, I have given to them: and they have received them, and have known in very deed that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou diest send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them whom thou hast given me, because they are thine: and all my things are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them. Anil Liow I am not in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee'.

LESSON. Acts i. 1. 11.-The former treatise; I made, O Theophilus, of all things which Jesus began to do and to teach, until the day on which, giving commandments by the Holy Ghost to the apostles whoin he had chosen, he was taken up. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion, by many proofs, by forty days appearing to them, and speaking of the kingdom of God. And eating together with them, he commanded them, that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but should wait for the promise of the Father, which you have heard (saith he) by my mouth: for John indeed baptised with water, but you shall be baptised with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. They therefore who were come together, asked him saying: Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom of Israel? But he said to them: It is not for you to know the times or moments, which the Father hath put in his own power; but you shall receive the power of the Holy Ghost coming upon you, and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Sa. maria, and even to the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had said these things, while they looked on, he was raised up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they were beholding him going up to heaven, behold two men stood by them in white garments. Who also said : Ye men of Galilee, why stand you looking up to heaven? This Jesus who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come as you have seen him going into heaven.
