Efficacy of Prayer. 11 Behold, we count them a happy which endure. Ye have heard of the pa tience c of Job, and have seen the end a of the Lord; that the Lord is very piti ful, and of tender mercy.

12 But above all things, my brethren, swear g not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath but let your yea be yea, and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

14 Is any sick m among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if p he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16 Confess q your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. s

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he i prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again, w and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one y convert him,

20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul rom death, and shall hide a a multitude of sins. 169

THE elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory d that shall be revealed:

2 Feed ƒ the flock of God 1 which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; h not for filthy lucre, i but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as 3 being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples 7 to the flock.

4 And when the chief n Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown p of glory that fadeth not away.

5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder: yea, all g of you be subject cne to ancther, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

6 Humble u yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting wall your care upon him, for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as y a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may de
