RECOMMENDATIONS.

It must be evident to every reader of the Latin and Greek classics, that it would be highly desirable to our Colleges and Schools to have expurgata editions of some of them, in order that they may be presented to the perusal of youth cleansed from those impurities which may vitiate their imaginations or corrupt their moral principles. As far as I have had an opportunity of examining the present edition of Horace, I think it is executed throughout with judgment and ability, and will completely answer the important purpose above mentioned. I can, therefore, conscientiously recommend it to the use of our Colleges and Schools.

FREDERIC BEASLEY.

HAVING examined Mr. Dugdale's edition of Horace, we freely recommend it to the attention of teachers. In its present purified state, and with the addition of his very useful notes, we think it the best edition of Horace we have met with for the use of Schools; and at the same time an agreeable and instructive companion for the man of leisure.
