also, if designed for members of the Church of England, express fully, whilst they do not exceed, the doctrinal teaching and devotional fervour of that Church. The present Manual has been compiled by the Head-Master of one of our great public Schools. To me it appears thoroughly to fulfil the above conditions, and to be well calculated to meet the requirements of boys at and from the ordinary age of Confirmation. I therefore most unreservedly commend it to general use, and as an old Merchant Taylor, I shall more especially rejoice if it contributes to the quickening the religious life of those who have followed me in a School to which I shall always feel the most grateful affection.
