Prayers Special and Occasional 1. Before commencing any Work. PREV REVENT me, O LORD, in all my doings with Thy most gracious favour, and further me with Thy continual help; that in all my works begun, continued, and ended in Thee, I may glorify Thy holy Name, and finally by Thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen. 2. For the Direction of the HOLY SPIRIT. GOD, forasmuch as without Thee I am not able to please Thee; Mercifully grant, that Thy HOLY SPIRIT may in all things direct and rule my heart; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen. O 3. For Diligence. ALMIGHTY GOD, Who hast appointed unto every man his work; Give me grace to try and improve whatever talents Thou hast committed to my trust, and grant that whatever I do I may do it with all my might, to Thy honour and glory; for JESUS CHRIST'S sake. Amen. 4. For honesty in Work. LORD, Who from Thy throne above seest all my thoughts and actions, Grant that I may faithfully, sincerely, and honestly serve Thee in my daily work, and keep me free from all the snares of the enemy; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen. I 5. After falling into Sin. CONFESS to Thee, O most merciful FATHER, That I have sinned against Heaven and before Thee, and am no more worthy to be called Thy son. Especially I I most earnestly repent, confess LORD, and am heartily sorry for this my misdoing. Have mercy upon me and forgive me this sin; and give me strength to serve Thee better for the time to come; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen. 6. In Sickness. LORD, look down from heaven, behold, visit and relieve me in this my sickness. Sanctify, I beseech Thee, this Thy fatherly correction to me, and grant that it may produce in me that good purpose for which Thou sendest it. Create in me a hearty sorrow for my sins past, and grant that my present weakness may add strength to my faith and seriousness to my repentance. Make me gentle, loving and patient, O LORD. Bless the means used for my recovery, and if it be Thy good pleasure restore me speedily to health and strength; for JESUS CHRIST'S sake. Amen. I 7. Thanksgiving for any Blessing. PRAISE and bless Thee, O LORD, for all the great and undeserved blessings that THOU hast bestowed upon me, especially for Give me in addition the gift of a thankful heart, that I may shew forth Thy praise not only with my lips, but in my life; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen. 8. Thanksgiving for recovery from Sickness. M OST gracious and merciful LORD GOD, I thank Thee for restoring me to health and strength. May I give up my life henceforth to Thy service. Shew me, O LORD, what Thou wouldest have me to do, and then enable me to do it; and grant that I may so live to Thee here, that I may be partaker of the life everlasting hereafter; for my SAVIOUR'S sake. CLEANSE, O LORD, my heart, I beseech Thee, and drive from me all assaults of the enemy, that my prayers and praises may be not only from the lips, but from the heart, and be heard in the presence of Thy Divine Majesty; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD.
