unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Rom. v. 9. 21. Much more then being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 John ii. 25. And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

SECTION II.

Rom. iv. 23, 24, 25. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Acts xiii. 39. And by him all that believe are justified from all things from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Rom. i. 17. (see above § 2.) Heb xii. 23. To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect. Rom. ii. 13. For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. Acts xxiv. 15. And have hope towards God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead both of the just and unjust.

SECTION IV.

Rom. iii. 24. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Rom. v. 17. For if by one man's offence death reigued by one, much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Gal. ii. 20. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, whe

loved me, and gave himself for me. Gal. v. 4. Christ is become of none effect unto you whosoever of you are justified by the law, ye are fallen from grace.

SECTION V.

Rom. iii. 21, 22. 25, 26. 28. 30. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets; even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. Rom. x. 4. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. Gal. iii. 8. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith; preached before the Gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. Phil. iii. 8, 9, 10. Yea, doubless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death. Rom. v. 14, 15. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more

the grace of God and the gift by grace, which is by one man Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

SECTION VI.

1 Cor. i. 30. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of = God is made unto us, wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. 1 Cor. vi. 11. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 2 Cor. v. 21. For he hath made him to Ebe sin for us who knew no sin; that we might be made the =righteousness of God in him. Ephes. v. 25, 26, 27. Hus

bands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it, that he might sanctify and # cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy 品 and without blemish. Ephes. i. 6. To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Heb. ii. 17. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a - merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of his people. Acts 是 xxiv. 15. (see above, sect iii.) Rom. ii. 13. (see above, sect. iii.)

SECTION VII.

Rom. v. 16, 17, 18. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justifica. tion. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness, shall reign in life by one Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righ

teousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. Rom. in. 30. Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through faith. Acts iii. 39. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Rom. iii. 21. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets.

SECTION VIII.

Tit. iii. 4, 5, 6, 7. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of Eternal life. Acts ii. 38. 41. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. Acts xxii. 16. And now why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Rom. vi. 3, 4. 6, 7. 11. 14. 18. 20. 22. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism unto death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is free from sin. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin,

but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 1 Pet. iii. 20, 21. Which sometime were disobedient, when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight persons were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

SECTION IX.

Rom. vii. 9. For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. Rom. viii. 30. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. James ii. 21. 24, 25. Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? Matt. xii. 36, 37. But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Rom. ii, 13. (see above, sect. iii.) Rev. xxii. 10, 11, 12. And he saith unto me, seal not the saying of the prophecy of this book ; for the time is at hand. He that is unjust, let him be
