jesty, and judge ourselves now with such a just severity, that then Thou mayest judge us with mercy and clemency.

Let us here examine what sins we have committed this day, by thought, word, deed, or omission.

Here pause a few moments for examination.

Let us conceive a great sorrow for having offended God.

GOD, we detest these and all other sins which we have committed against Thy divine Majesty. We are heartily sorry that we have offended Thee, because Thou art infinitely good, and sin displeases Thee. We firmly purpose, by the help of Thy grace, never more to offend Thee. We resolve to avoid the occasions of sin; we will confess our sins, and will endeavour to make satisfaction for them. Have mercy on us, O God, have mercy on us; and vouchsafe so to wash us in the precious blood of Thy beloved Son that our sins may be entirely remitted.

Let us endeavour, as much as possible, to put ourselves in the dispositions in which we desire to be found at the hour of death.

(GOD, we accept of death as a homage and

adoration which we owe to Thy divine Majesty, and as a punishment justly due to our sins, in union with the death of Thine only-begotten Son, and as the only means of coming to Thee, our beginning and last end.

We firmly believe all the sacred truths which the Catholic Church believeth and teacheth, because Thou hast revealed them. And by the assistance of Thy grace we are resolved to live and die in the communion of this Thy Church.

Relying upon Thy goodness, power, and pro

mises, we hope to obtain the pardon of our sins and life everlasting, through the merits of Thy Son Jesus Christ, our only Redeemer, and by the intercession of His blessed Mother, and of all the Saints.

We love Thee with our whole hearts, and desire to love Thee as the Blessed do in heaven. We adore all the designs of Thy divine Providence, resigning ourselves entirely to Thy will.

We also love our neighbours for Thy sake, as we love ourselves. We sincerely forgive all who have injured us, and ask pardon of all whom we have injured.

We renounce the Devil with all his works: the world with all its pomps: the flesh with all its temptations. Into Thy hands, O Lord, we humbly commend ourselves, now and always. Amen.

V. Convert us, O God of our salvation :
R. And turn away Thine anger from us.
V. O God, come to my assistance:
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory be to the Father &c. Alleluia (when proper).

Ps. 133. Ecce nunc benedicite. EHOLD now bless the Lord: all ye servants of the Lord :

BEHO

Who stand in the house of the Lord in the courts of the house of our God.

In the nights lift up your hands to the holy places and bless the Lord.

:

May the Lord out of Sion bless thee who made heaven and earth. Glory &c.

:

Anth. Have mercy on us, O Lord and hear our prayer.

Sundays.

LESSON.

You, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day of the Lord should overtake you as a thief. For all you are the children of light, and children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep as others do: but let us watch and be sober. (1. Thess. 5.) R. Thanks be to God.

Week-days.

BRE

RETHREN, Be sober, and watch: because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist ye, strong in faith. (1 Peter 5.) R. Thanks be to God.

HYMN.

On Sundays and festivals.

WEET Saviour, bless us ere we go;
Thy word into our minds instil,
And make our lukewarm hearts to glow
With lowly love and fervent will.
The day is gone, its hours have run,
And Thou hast taken count of all,
The scanty triumphs grace hath won,
The broken vow, the frequent fall.
Grant us, dear Lord, from evil ways
True absolution and release;
And bless us, more than in past days,
With purity and inward peace.

Do more than pardon; give us joy,
Sweet fear, and sober liberty,
And simple hearts without alloy
That only long to be like Thee.
For all we love, the poor, the sad,
The sinful, unto Thee we call ;
O let Thy mercy make us glad:

Thou art our Jesus, and our All. Amen.

THE radiant morn hath passed away,

THE

And spent too soon her golden store ;

The shadows of departing day

Creep on once more.

Our life is but a fading dawn,

Its glorious noon how quickly past;
Lead us, O Christ, when all is gone,
Safe home at last.

O by Thy soul-inspiring grace
Uplift our hearts to realms on high;

Amen.

Help us to look to that bright place
Beyond the sky;

Where light, and life, and joy, and peace
In undivided empire reign,

And thronging Angels never cease
Their deathless strain;

Where Saints are clothed in spotless white,
And evening shadows never fall,

Where Thou, Eternal Light of Light,
