28. Then took he Him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said:

29. Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word;

7. O generation of vipers! who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8. Bring forth fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

9. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree, therefore, which bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Did John leave the people in doubt whether he were the Christ or not?

15. As the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ or not,

not worthy to unloose: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.

17. Whose fan is in his hand, and He will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff He will burn with fire unquenchable.

17. And there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet Esaias; and when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:

captives, and recovering of sight to the blind; to set at liberty them that are bruised;

19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20. And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue

were fastened on Him.

his mouth.
