14. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15. Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

16. That He would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man ;

17. That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

18. May be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

19. And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge; that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Repeat the apostle's ascription of glory to God, in concluding his prayer.

20. Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly, above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

21. Unto Him be glory in the church, by Christ Jesus, throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

CHAPTER IV.

CHRISTIANS TO WALK WORTHY THEIR VOCATION.

Are we not exhorted to walk in a manner becoming our Christian calling?

1. I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation. wherewith ye are called ;

2. With all lowliness and meekness; with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love; 3. Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Have we not all received, through Christ, a measure of Divine grace, sufficient to perfect the work of holiness in us?

7. Unto every one of us is given grace, according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

8. Wherefore he saith: When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

11. And He gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers;

12. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ :

13. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a

perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.

If we continue to walk in vanity and lust, and are not renewed in the spirit of our minds, can we be Christ's disciples ?

17. This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind :

18. Having the understanding darkened; being alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their hearts :

19. Who, being past feeling, have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20. But ye have not so learned Christ.

21. If so be that ye have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22. That ye put off concerning the former conversation, the old man which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind:

24. And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

What does the Gospel require in our intercourse with, and conduct towards others?

29. Let no corrupt communication proceed

out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the bearers.

30. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

31. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice :

32. And be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

CHAPTER V.

EXHORTATION TO PURITY-TO HUSBANDS AND WIVES.

Ought we not to be incited by a sense of the love of Christ, to guard against all impurity of conduct or conversation?

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

2. And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God, for a sweet smelling

savour.

3. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

4. Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient; but rather giving of thanks.

11. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Paul, in writing to the Ephesians, addresses in a particular manner several different stations in society. What is his counsel to married persons ?

22. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

25. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it.

CHAPTER VI.

EXHORTATIONS TO PARENTS AND CHILDREN-MASTERS AND SERVANTS. THE CHRISTIAN'S ARMOUR.

What is the obligation of children to parents? 1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2. Honour thy father and mother, (which is the first commandment with promise,)

3. That it may be well with thee, and thou mayst live long on the earth.

What is the obligation of parents to children ? 4. And ye fathers, provoke not your children
