35 Y les dijó: Varones Israelitas, mirad bien por vosotros lo que vais á hacer acerca de estos hombres.

36 Porque antes de estos dias, hubo un cierto Theudas, diciendo, que era alguien: al cual se allegaron un número de hombres como de cuatrocientos, y fué muerto, y todos los que le dieron crédito fueron disipados, y reducidos á nada.

37 Despues de esto se levantó Judas el Galileo en el tiempo del empadronamiento, el cual arrastró tras sí mucha gente: mas tambien pereció este, y todos los que le siguieron, fueron dispersos.

38 Y ahora os digo: no os metais con estos hombres, y dejadlos, porque si este consejo ó esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá.

39 Mas si es de Dios, no la podréis deshacer: mirad no sea que tambien seais hallados resistiendo á Dios.

40 Y ellos convinieron con él. Y habiendo llamado á los Apóstoles, y hecholos azotar, les mandaron que no hablasen mas en el nombre de Jesus, y los soltaron.

41 Y ellos salieron gozosos de delante del concejo, por haber sido hallados dignos de padecer afrenta por el nombre de Jesus.

42 Y no cesaban de enseñar, y predicar á Jesus todos los dias en el templo, y por las casas.

35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 But if it be of God, ye camot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostes, and beaten them, they commanced that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

CHAPTER VI.

2 Por lo que los doce, convocada la multitud de los discípulos, les digeron: no es justo que nosotros degemos la palabra de Dios, y sirvamos á las mesas.

3 Escoged pues, hermanos, de entre vosotros siete varones de buena reputacion, llenos de Espíritu Santo y de sabiduría, á los cuales encarguemos esta obra.

4 Y nosotros nos entregarémos continuamente á la oracion, y al ministerio de la palabra.

5 Y pareció bien á toda la multitud, y escogieron á Estevan hombre lleno de fé y de Espíritu Santo, y á Felipe, y á Próchoro, y á Nicanór, y á Timon, y á Parmenas, yá Nicolás próselito de Antiochía.

6 A los cuales presentaron delante de los Apóstoles: Y despues de haber orado estos, pusieron las manos sobre ellos.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch;

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

tiplicaba mucho en Jerusalem. Y un gran número de los Sacerdotes obedecía tambien la fé.

8 Y Estevan lleno de fé, y de poder, hacía grandes prodigios, y milagros entre el pueblo.

9 Y algunos de la Sinagoga llamada de los Libertinos, y de los Cireneos, y de los Alejandrinos, y de los que eran de Cilicia, y de Asia se levantaron á disputar con Estevan.

10 Mas no podían resistir á la sabiduría y al espíritu con que hablaba.

11 Entonces sobornaron á algunos, que digesen que ellos la habían oido decir palabras de blasfemia contra Moysés, y contra Dios.

12 Y conmovieron al pueblo, y á los Ancianos, y á los Escribas, y echandosele encima le prendieron, y le llevaron al Sinedrio.

13 Y presentaron testigos falsos, que digesen: este hombre no cesa de hablar palabras de blasfemia contra este santo lugar, y contra la ley.

14 Porque le hemos oido decir: que este Jesus Nazareno destruirá

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Čyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law :

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall

10 Y le libró de todas sus tribulaciones, y le dió gracia y sabiduría delante de Pharaon Rey de Egipto, el cual le hizó Gobernador de Egipto, y de toda su casa.

11 Y sobrevinó hambre en toda la tierra de Egipto, y de Canaan, y grande tribulacion. Y nuestros padres no hallaban sustento.

12 Y como oyese Jacob que en Egipto había trigo, envió la primera vez á nuestros padres.

13 Y en la segunda Joséph fué conocido de sus hermanos, y el linage de Joséph fué descubierto á Pharaon.

14 Y Joséph mandó llamar á su padre Jacob, y á toda su parentela, que era de setenta y cinco personas. 15 Así Jacob descendió á Egipto, y murió él y todos nuestros padres.

16 Y fueron llevados á Sichem, y puestos en el sepulcro que compró Abraham por una suma de dinero, de los hijos de Hemor, padre de Sichem.

17 Mas cuando se acercó el tiempo de la promesa que había Dios jurado á Abraham, creció el pueblo, y se multiplicó en Egipto.

18 Hásta que se levantó otro Rey, que no conocía á Joséph.

19 Este usando de astucia contra nuestra nacion, trató mal á nuestros padres, haciendo que abandonasen á sus hijos á fin de que no viviesen.

20 En aquel mismo tiempo nació Moysés, y fué agradable á Dios, y fué criado tres meses en casa de su padre.

21 Mas cuando fué abandonado, la hija de Pharaon le tomó, y le crió como si fuese hijo suyo.

22 Y Moysés fué enseñado en toda la sabiduría de los Egipcios, y erá poderoso en palabras, y en

10 And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

11 Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

12 But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

13 And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.

14 Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls. 15 So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,

16 And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor, the father of Sychem.

17 But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

18 Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.

19 The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

20 In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:

21 And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son. 22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
