Strona 74 - The United States is trying an experiment which never has been successfully worked out yet in the history of the world. It is trying to build, develop and operate its railroads by private capital under rates and regulations fixed, not by the owners of that capital, but by the public.
Strona 11 - The earlier projects for their improvement, adopted in 1871, 1877, 1881, and 1892, provided for a channel 100 feet wide and 12 feet deep. Dredging was carried on for a number of years, furnishing a channel sufficient for the character of vessels then navigating these channels.
