19 20 21 OT 2 עַל־הָאָרֶץ וַתֵּלֶךְ הַתֵּבָה עַל־פְּנֵי הַמָּיִם: 19 וְהַמַיִם גַּבְרָוּ מְאֹד מְאד עַל־הָאָרֶץ וַיִכְסוּ כָּל־הֶהָרִים הַגְּבהִים אֲשֶׁר־ תַּחַת כָּל־הַשָּׁמָיִם: 20 חֲמֵשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה אַמָּה מִלְמַעְלָה גָּבְרוּ הַמָּיִם וַיִכְסִוּהֶהָרִים: 21 וַיִּגְעכָּל־בָּשָׂר הָרֹמֵשׂ עַל־הָאָרֶץ בָּעוֹף וּבַבְּהֵמָה וּבְחַיָּה וּבָכָל־הַשֶׁרֶץ הַשׁרָץ עַל־הָאָרֶץ וְכָל הָאָרֶם: 22 כֹּל אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁמַת־רוּחַ חַיִּים בְּאַפָּיו מִכָּל אֲשֶׁר בְּחָרָבָה מֵתוּ: 23 וַיִמַח אֶת־כָּל־הַיְקָוּם אֲשֶׁר עַל־ פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה מֵאָדָם עַד־־בְּהֵמָה עַד רֶמֶשׂ וְעַד־עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיִּמָּחוּ מִן־הָאָרֶץ וַיִּשָּׁאֵר אַךְ־נָחַ וַאֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ בַּתֵּבָה : 24 וַיִּגְבְּרוּ הַמַּיִם עַל־הָאָרֶץ חֲמִשִּׁים וּמְאַת ח יְוֹם : וַיִּזְכֹּר אֱלֹהִים אֶת־נֹחַ וְאֵת כָּל־הַחַיָּה וְאֶת־ כָּל־הַבְּהֵמָה אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ בַּתֵּבָה וַיַּעֲבֵר אֱלֹהִים רוּחַ על־הָאָרֶץ וַיָּשְׁכּוּ הַמָּיִם: 2 וַיִּסֶכְרוּ מַעְיְנֹת תְּהוֹם וְאַרְבַּת הַשָּׁמָיִם וַוּכָּלֵא הַגֶשֶׁם מִן־הַשָּׁמָיִם: 3 וַיָּשָׁבוּ הַמַּיִם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ הָלִיךְ וָשׁוֹב וַיַּחְסְרָוּ הַמַיִם מִקְצֵה חֲמִשִׁים וּמְאַת יְוֹם: 4 וַתָּנַח הַתֵּבָה בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְׁבִיעי בְּשִׁבְעָה עָשָׂר יוֹם לַחֹדֶשׁ עַל הָרֵי אֲרָרָט: 5 וְהַמַּיִם הָיוּ הָלְוֹךְ וְחָסוֹר עַד הַחֹדֶשׁ הָעֲשִׂירִי בָּעַשִׂירִי בְּאֶחָד לַחֹדֶשׁ נִרְאוּ רָאשֵׁי הֶהָרִים: 6 וַיְהִי מַקֵץ אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וַיִּפְתַּח נֹחַ אֶת־חַלּוֹן הַתֵּבָה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה: 7 וַיִּשְׁלַח אֶת־הָערֶב ויצא יָצוֹא וָשׁוֹב עַד־־יִבְשֶׁת הַמַּיִם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ : 8 וַיְשַׁלַּח אֶת־הַיּוֹנָה מֵאִתּוֹ לִרְאוֹת הֲקַלוּ הַמַּיִם מֵעַל פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה : 9 וְלֹא־־מָצְאָה הַיּוֹנָה מָנוֹחַ לְכַף־רַגְלָהּ וַתָּשָׁב אֵלָיו אֶל־הַתֵּבָה כִּי מַיִם עַל־פְּנֵי כָל־־הָאָרֶץ וַיִּשְׁלַח יָדוֹ וַיִּקָּחֶהָ וַיָּבֵא אֹתָהּ אֵלָיו אֶל־ הַתֵּבָה:10 וַיָּחֶל עוֹד שִׁבְעַת יָמִים אֲחֵרִים וַיֹּסֶף שָׁלַח אֶת־ הַיּוֹנָהמִן־הַתֵּבָה: 11 וַתָּבֹא אֵלָיו הַיּוֹנָהלְעֵת עֶרֶב וְהִנֵּה עֲלֵה-זַיִת טָרֶף בְּפִיהָ וַיִּדַע נֹחַ כִּי־קָלוּ הַמַּיִם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ: 12 וַיוֹחֵל שׂוֹד שִׁבְעַת יָמִים אֲחֵרִים וַיְשַׁלַּח אֶת־ 4: 5 IT 8 10 11 9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth, 11 ¶ In the sixth hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 In the self-same day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark. 14 They and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. 15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. 16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in. 17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth: and the waters increased and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. 18 And the waters prevailed and were increased greatly upon Heb. I will blot. 4 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he. CHAP. VII. 1 Noah with his family entereth the ark. 17 The beginning, increase, and continuance of the flood. AND the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou, and all thy house, into the ark: for thee have I seen righteous before me in this gene ration. 2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by * sevens, the male and his female: And of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. 3 Of fowls also of the air by seven's, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth. 4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights: and every living substance that I have made, § will destroy from off the face of the earth. 5 And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him. 6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. 7 ¶ And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, Heb. Seven, seven. This seams contrary to God's command in verse 7, "Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens" "This Nachmanides explains on this wise: "That of every specie of beast there came to Noah pairs of their own accord, as mentioned, " there went unto Noah;" but that of the clean sort, he was commanded, that besides the pairs which came of their own accord for the preservation of their specie, he should take as many more, till the whole amounted to seven; for which reason in verse the second, it is said, “Thou shalt take to thee;" hut here it is said, “There went," i. e. without compulsion. The generality of the men of generation observed, that if they were to have seen him go into the ark, they would have broke it, and have murdered him: therefore Moses informs us, that according to God's commandment, he went in at noon-day; and they had no power to hurt him. Wing. 3 5 6 8 וְהָיָה לְךָ וְלָהֶם לְאָכְלָה: 2 וַיַּעֲשׂגָחַ בֶּכל אֲשֶׁר צִיָּה אֹתָו ! שני אֱלֹהִים כֵּן עָשָׂה : וַיֹּאמֶר יְה לְנֹחַבָּא־אַתָּה וְכָל־ בֵּיתְךְ אֶל־הַתֵּבָה כִּי־־אֹתְךָ רָאִיתִי צַדִּיק לְפָנַי בַּדּוֹר וְזֶה: 2 מִכָּל הַבְּהֵמָה הַטְהוֹרָה קַח־לְךָ שִׁבְעֶה שִׁבְעָה אִישׁ וְאִשְׁתּוֹ וּמִן־הַבְּהֵמָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא טְהרָה הִוא שְׁנַיִם אִישׁ וְאִשְׁתּוֹ: 3 גַּם מֵעֲוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם עֶבְעָה שִׁבְעֶה וּנְקֵבָה לְחַיּוֹת זֶרַע עַל־פְּנֵי כָל־הָאָרֶץ: כִּי לְיָמִים עוד שִׁבְעָה אָנֹכִי מַמְטִיר עַל־־הָאָרֶץ אַרְבָּעָם יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעִים לָיְלָה וּמָחִיתִי אֶת־כָּל־הַיְקוּם אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי מעל פְּנֵי פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה: 5 וַיַּעַשׂ נֹחַ כְּכָל אֲשֶׁר־צִיָּהוּ יְהוָה: 6 וְנֹחַ בֶּן־שֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה וְהַמַּבּוּל הָיָה מַיִם עַל־הָאָרֶץ: 7 וַיָּבֹא נֹחַ וּבָנָיו וְאִשְׁתְּוֹ וּנְשֵׁי־בָנָיו אִתּוֹ אֶל־הַתֵּבָה מִפְּנֵי מִי הַמַּבּוּל: 8 מִן־הַבְּהֵמָה הַטְהוֹרָה וּמִן־הַבְּהֵמָה אֲשֶׁר אֵינֶנָּהטְקְרֶה וּמִן־הָעוֹף וְכָל אֲשֶׁר־רְמֶשׂ עַל־הָאֲדָמָה: שְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם בָּאוּ אֶל־נָחַ אֶל־הַתֵּבָה זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֱלֹהִים אֶת־נְתַ: 10 וַיְהִי לְשִׁבְעַת הַיָּמִיםוּמִי הַמַּבּוּל הָיוּ עַל־הָאָרֶץ : 1 בִּשְׁנַת שָׁשׁ־מֵאוֹת שָׁנָה לְחַנֵי־נֹחַ בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי בְּשִׁבְעָה עָשָׂר יוֹם לַחֹדֶשׁ בַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה נִבְקְער כָּל־מַעְיְנוֹת תְּהוֹם רַבָּה וְאַרְבָּת הַשָּׁמַיִם נִפְתָּחוּ : וַיְהִי הַגֶשֶׁם עַל־הָאָרֶץ אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְאַרְבָּעָם לָיְלָה: 13 בְּעֶצֶם הַיוֹם הַזֶּה בָּאנֹחַוְשֵׁם־יְתָסופת בְּנֵי נָחַ וְאֵשֶׁת נחַ וּשְׁלֹשֶׁת נְשֵׁי־בָנָיו אִתָּם אֶל־הַתֵּבָה; 14 הֵמָּה וְכָל־ הַחַיָּה לְמִינָה וְכָל־הַבְּהֵמָה לְמִינָהּ וְכָל־הָרֶמֶשׂ הָרֹמֵשׂ על־הָאָרֶץ לְמִינֵהוּ וְכָל־־הָעוֹף לְמִינָהוּ כּל צִפּוֹר כָּל־ כָּנָף: 15 בא אֶל־נֹחַ אֶל הַתֵּבָהשְׁנַיִם שְׁנַיִם מִכָּל הַבָּשָׂר אֲשֶׁר־בּוֹ רוּחַ חַיִּים: 16 וְהַבָּאִים זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה מִכָּל־בָּשָׂר שלייט בָּאוּ כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה אֹתוֹ אֱלֹהִים וַיִּסְגַר יְהוָה בַּעַדְוֹ : 47 וַנֶהִי הַמַּבּוּל אַרְבָּעִים יוֹטְעַל־זָאָרֶץ וַיִּרְבּוּ הַמַּיִם וַיִּשְׂאוּ אֶת־ הַתֵּבָה וַתָּרָם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ: 18 וַיִּגְבְּרוּ הַמַּיִם וַיִּרְבּוּ בְּאר 11 14 . 18 tion of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, both * man and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air: for it repenteth me that I have made them: 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his § generations, and Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and behold it was corrupt: for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make thee an ark of gopher-wood: || rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. 15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: the length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits, 16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof: with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. 17 And behold, I, even I do bring ¶ a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven: and every thing that is in the earth shall die. 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant: and thou shalt come into the ark; thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee: they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind: two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee, and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. Ver. 1, 4. These sons of God, and mighty men, and men of renown. Aben Ezra observes, that, by "the sons of God," are to be understood, the sons of the princes or judges, who administered justice in the land, in the name of God: And so says Rabbi Solomon Jarchi; but Abarbanel observes, that the sons of God, were the descendents of Seth; and the daughters of men, the descendants of Cain. I do not pretend to determine what is meant here; yet it is probable, that the Atlas, Jupiter, &c. of the fabulous writers, took their rise from them. And they took them wives of all which they chose there must, we should from hence infer, have been something criminal in their choice, but what it was we cannot tell. Heb. From man unto beast. This is in the plural, although it ought properly to be in the singular; but the obvious meaning of the passage is, that during his long life he saw several generations, in all of which, notwithstanding their wickedness, he was nevertheless "a just man This is to be understood of the inhabitants of the earth, as in Genesis, chap. xli. ver. 57, agreeable to the idiom of the Hebrew language, to shew the excess of their wickedness. The common translation gopher-wood, is wrong; for y is in the plural number, and means rather pines or firs, that is, the wood of which pitch is made; and is derived from, which is a sort of bitumen, or pitch; and it is probably, the same as D, for the and the are often put in Hebrew indifferently, as we find 150 and 120 to have the same meaning: it should therefore be translated pitch-wood.- -Dp is the plural of IP, a nest, and it means to express stalls, or folds, or proper partitions for all sorts of beasts, birds, &c.
