אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר וְאֶנֹכִי אִישׁ חָלֶק: 12 אוּלַי יִמאֲנִי אָבִי וְהָיִיתִי בְעֵינָיו כִּמְתַעְתִּעַ וְהֵבֵאתִי עָלַי קְלָלָה וְלֹא בְרָכָה: 13 וַתֹּאמֶר לֹוֹ אִמוֹ עָלַי קִלְלֶתְךָ בְּנִי אַךְ שְׁמַע בְּקלי וְלֵךְ קַח־לִי : 14 וַיֵּלֶךְ וַיִּלַּח וַיָּבֵא לְאִמּוֹ וַתַּעַשׂ אִמוֹ מַטְעַמִּים כַּאֲשֶׁר אָהֵב אָבִיו : 15 וַתְּקַח רִבְקָה אֶת־־בִּגְדֵי עֵשָׂו בְּנָהּ הַגָדל הַחֲמוֹת אֲשֶׁר אִתָּהּ בַּבַּיִת וַתַּלְבַּשׁ אֶת־עַקְב בְּנָהּ הַקָטָן : 16 וְאֵת ערת גְדָיֵי הָעִים הִלְבִּישָׁה עַל־יָדָיו מֵעַל חֶלְקַת צַנָּארָיו :
וַתִּתֵּן אֶת־הַמַּטְעַמִּים וְאֶת־הַלֶחֶם אֲשֶׁר עָשְׂתָה בְּיַךְ יַעֲקֶב בְּנָךְ : 18 וַיָּבִא אֶל־אָבִיו וַיֹּאמֶר אָבִי וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּנִי
אַתָּה בְּנִי: 19 וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקב אֶל־אָבִיו אָנֹכִי עֵשָׂו בְּבָרֶךְ עָשִׂיתִי כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ אֵלָי קְוּם־נָא שְׁבָה
כְלָה מִצִידִי בַּעֲבוּר תְּבָרֵכַנִי, נַפְשֶׁךְ : 20 וַיֹּאמֶר יִצְחָק אֶל־בְּנוֹ מַה־זֶּה מִהַרְתָּ לִמְצא בְּנִי וַיֹּאמֶר כִּי הִקְרֶה יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְפָנָי: 21 וַיֹּאמֶר יִצְחָק אֶל־יַעֲקב גְשָׁה-נָּא וַאֲמִשְׁךְ בְּנִי הַאַתָּה זֶה בְנִי עֵשָׂו אִם־לֹא : 2 וַיִּגַּשׁ יַעֲקב אֶל־יִצְחָק אָבִיו וַמשהוּ וַיֹּאמֶר הַקל קוֹל יַעֲקב וְהַיָּדַיִם יְדֵי עֵשָׂו : 23 וְלֹא הִכִּירוֹ כִּי־הָיוּ יָדָיו כִּידֵי עֵשָׂו אָחִיו שְׂעִרֹת וַיְבָרְכֵהוּ : 24 וַיֹּאמֶר אַתָּה זֶה בְּנִי עֵשָׂו וַיֹּאמֶר אָנִי : 25 וַיֹּאמֶר הָגֶשָׁה לִי וְאֹכְלָה מִגִּיד בְּנִי לְמַעַן תְּבָרֶכְךָ נַפְשִׁי וַיַּנְשׁ־לוֹ וַיֹּאכַל וַיָּבֵא לִי ײַן וַיִּשְׁתְּ : 26 וַיֹּאמֶר
26 וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו יִצְחָק אָבִיוּ גְּשָׁה-נָּא וּשְׁקָה־לי בְּנִי : 27 ויגש וישק לו וירח אֶת-רֵיחַ בְּנֶדֶיו
וַיְבָרַכֵהוּ וַיֹּאמֶר רְאֵה רֵיחַ בְּנִי כְּרֵיחַ שָׂדֶה אֲשֶׁר בְּרַכְוֹ ששי יְהוָה : 28 וְיִתֶּן־לִךְ הָאֱלֹהִים מְטַל הַשָּׁמַיִם וּמִשְׁמני
הָאָרֶץ וְרֹב דָּגָן וְתִירְשׁ: 29 יַעַבְדוּךְ עַמִּים וְיִשְׁתַּחֲוֹ לִךְ לְאָמִים הֵוָה גְבִיר לְאַחִיךְ וְיִשְׁתַּחֲווּ לְךְ בְּנִי אִמָּךְ אֹרַרֶיךָ, אָרוּר וּמְבָרַכֶיךָ בָּרוּךְ : 30 וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר כִּלָּה יִצְחָק לְבָרֵךְ אֶת־יַעֲקבֿ וַיְהִי אַךְ יָצָא יָצָא יַעֲקב מֵאֵת

28 And they said, We saw Isaac was old, and his eyes were certainly that the LORD was with dim, so that he could not see, he thee: * and we said, Let there called Esau his eldest son, and be now an oath, betwixt us, even said unto him, My son: And he betwixt us and thee, and let us said unto him, Behold, here am I. make a covenant with thee;
2 And he said, Behold now, I 29 That thou wilt do us no hurt, am old, I know not the day of my as we have not touched thee, s death. I and as we have done unto thee 3 Now therefore take, I

33 And he called it Sheba: I 7 Bring me venison, and make therefore the name of the city is me savoury meat, that I may eat, Beer-sheba unto this day.

♡ For although we desired thee to go from us, yet did we not take any thing from thee, or injure thee in any manner whatever, but sent thee away in peace. $ That is an oath; and was so called on account of the oath or covenant.
|| Heb. Bitterness of spirit. For which reason, I will bless thee while my spirit is fit: and that it may be refreshed, take thy weapons, &c. And this blessing, was the solemn, extraordinary, and prophetical benediction, which by God's concurrence, was to constitute him the heir not only of his inheritance, but of Abrahanı's covenant, and all the promises both' temporal and spiritual, that were annexed to it: as we find the same by Jacob before his death, &c.

Hunt. $$ As we do not find that Isaac said the words, " before the Lord :" Nachmanides is of opinion, that it was the divine spirit that caused her to utter that expression, in order to shew Jacub, that it was a solemn blessing, in God's presence, and with his concurrence; and which if Esau unce obtained, it would certainly be confirmed to him and his seed; therefore says she, my son obey my voice, &c.

נְגַעֲנוּךְ וְכַאֲשֶׁר עָשִׂינוּ עֶמְךְ רַק־טוֹב וַנְשַׁלֵּחֲךָ בְּשָׁלוֹם חמישי אַתָּה עַתָּה בְּרְוּךְ יְהוָה: 30 וַיַּעַשׂ לָהֶם מִשְׁתֶּה וַיֹּאכְלוּ
וַיִּשְׁתּוּ: 31 וַיַּשְׁכִּימוּ בַבּקֶר וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ אִישׁ לְאָחִיו וַיִשרְחֵם יִצְחָק וַיֵּלְכוּ מֵאִתּוֹ בְּשָׁלוֹם :
32 וַיְהִי בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא וַיָּבֹאוּ עַבְדֵי יִצְחָק וַיַּגִּדוּ לוֹ עַל־אֹדוֹת הַבְּאֵר אֲשֶׁר חָפָרוּ וַיֹּאמְרוּ לוֹ מָצָאנוּ מָיִם: 33 וַיִּקְרָא אֹתָהּ שִׁבְעָה עַל־כֵּן שֵׁם-הָעִיר בְּאֵר שֶׁבַע עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה : ס
34 וַיְהִי עֵשָׂו בֶּן־אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה וַיִּקְח אִשָּׁה אֶת־ יְהוּדִית בַּת־־בְּאֵרִי הַחִתִּי וְאֶת־בָּשְׂמַת בַּת־־אֵילְן הַחִתִּי : 35 וַתִּהְיֵין מַחַת רוּחַ לְיִצְחָק וּלְרִבְקָה :
וַיְהִי כִּי־זָקֵן יִצְחָק וַתִּכְהֶיךָ עֵינָיִן מַרְאֵת וַיִּקְרָא אֶת-עֵשָׂו בְּנוֹ הַגָּדֹל וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו בְּנֵי וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו הִנֵּנִי : 2 וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה־נָא זָקַנְתִּי לֹא יָדַעְתִּי יום מוֹתִי : 3
: 3 וְעַתָּה שָׂא נָא כֵלֶיךָ תִּלְיִךְ וְקַשְׁתָּךְ וְצֵא הַשָּׂדֶה וְצוּדָה לִי צְיָדה : 4 וַעֲשֵׂה-לִי מַטְעַמִּים כַּאֲשֶׁר אָהַבְתִּי וְהָבִיאָה לִי וְאֹכְלָה בַּעֲבוּר תְּבָרֶכְךָ נַפְשִׁי בְּטֶרֶם אָמוּת: 5 וְרִבְקָה שׁמַעַת בְּדַבֵּר יִצְחָק אֶל־ עשו בְּנוֹ וַיֵּלֶךְ עֵשָׂו הַשָּׂדֶה לָצוּד צַיִד לְהָבִיא: 6 וְרִבְקָה אָמְרָה אֶל־יַעֲקֹב בְּנָהּ לֵאמֹר הִנֵּה שָׁמַעְתִּי אֶת־אָבִיךְ מְדַבֵּר אֶל־־עשָׂו אָחִיךְ לֵאמֹר: 7 הָבִיאָה לִי צַיִד וַעֲשֵׂה-לִי מַטְעַמִּים וְאֹכֶלֶה וַאֲבָרֶכְכָה לִפְנֵי יְהוָה לִפְנֵי מוֹתִי : 8 וְעַתָּה בְנִי שְׁמַע בְּקֹלִי לַאֲשֶׁר אֲנִי מְצוּה אֹתָךְ : 9 לֶךְ־נָא אֶל־הַכֹּאן וְקַח־לִי מִשָּׁם שְׁנֵי גְדָיו עזים רֹבִים וְאֶעֶשֶׂה אֹתָם מַטְעַמִּים לְאָבִיךְ כַּאֲשֶׁר אָהֵב: 10 וְהֵבֵאתָ לְאָבִיךְ וְאָכָל בָּעֵבֶר אֲשֶׁר יְבָרֶכְךָ לִפְנֵי
11 וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקב אֶל־רִבְקָה אִמּוֹ הֵן עֵשָׂו אָחִי
10 And Abimelech said, What in the valley, $$ and found there a is this thou hast done unto us? well of springing 11 water. one of the people * might lightly 20 And the herdmen of Gerar have lien with thy wife, and thou did strive with Isaac's herdmen, shouldest have brought guiltiness saying, The water is ours: |||| and upon us. §

The guilt of adultry : for although they might not generally have thought it heinous among the heathens ; yet, here it was fresh in their memory, how sorely God had punished Abimelech, and all his family, for only attempting it. # Heb Found,
| Heb. Went going. I may means husbandry, or a farm. Vide Job, chap. i. verse 3. ** Under pretence, that if their country should chance to be invaded by an enemy, the finding of water, would be very favorable to the invader and prejudicial to the inhabitants of the country.
SS Ver. 17, 19, &c.—bno always means, in Scripture, a brook, or river, never a valley; and the digging of a well near a brook is no inconsistency; for, the waters of the brook might be bad, and so it appears from the expression in verse 19, viz. “ that they found there a well of springing water."
# Heb. Living. All Because, as they pretended, it was digged in their soil, as some think: but I imagine, that they claimed a prior right to it, as having before opened it. IT That is, contention,
