Make them as the salt of the earth, as the leaven in the lump, and as light in the world, that so, beholding their good works, and won by their holy life, multitudes may be turned to Thy truth, to glorify Thee in the day of visitation, Who art our Saviour and our God, blessed for ever. Amen.

For the Colonies.

BLESSED Lord, Who wouldst have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth; look in mercy on those parts of the earth that lie still in ignorance and error, and let the glorious Gospel of Thy Son shine upon them; particularly on the colonies and dependencies of Great Britain, and all such places as are now, or were formerly, under our government, and intrusted to our care. Plant and foster in each of them a branch of Thy Church, and bless the endeavours of the societies that co-operate towards that end. Prepare fit men to be sent as the ambassadors of Christ to those who dwell there, and raise up sufficient help to support and encourage them that are sent. Give an abundant blessing to their labours, and make them successful to the saving of souls; through His mediation Who hath taught us thus to pray, and Who sits at Thy right hand to make our prayers effectual; to Whom with Thee and the Holy Ghost, be honour and glory, now and for Amen.

MOST merciful Saviour and Redeemer, fulfil Thy gracious promise to be present

with those who are gone forth in Thy Name to preach the Gospel of salvation in distant lands. Be with them in all perils by land or by water, in sickness and distress, in weariness and painfulness, in disappointment and in persecution. Bless them with Thy continual favour, and send Thy Holy Spirit to guide and comfort them. O Lord, let Thy ministers be clothed with righteousness, and grant that Thy Word spoken by their mouths may never be spoken in vain. And so prosper Thy work that the fulness of the Gentiles may be gathered in, and all Israel be saved. Grant this, O Lord, for Thine own sake. Amen.

THOU Who art Thyself the Builder and the Husbandman of Thy Church, and Who hast chosen the weak and base things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; grant unto all those who labour together with Thee, that they, accounting their own planting and watering to be nothing, may confidently look unto Thee to give the increase; and also that they may have grace so to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ, that the savour of Thy knowledge may be made manifest by them in every place, and that Thy Gospel may come unto the Gentiles, not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost. Grant this, O Lord, for the honour of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

R EMEMBER, Lord, the catechumens of Thy

people, who in various lands are under

instruction preparatory to their baptism, and especially those in whom I am personally interested, viz. Have mercy upon them, confirm them in the Faith, remove all remains of the worship of idols from their hearts, and plant therein Thy laws, Thy precepts, Thy fear, Thy truth, and Thy commandments. Give them a firm knowledge of the Word in which they are taught, and grant that in due time they may be worthy of the washing of regeneration for the remission of their sins. Prepare them to be a habitation of the Holy Ghost to the glory of Thy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Converts.

GOD, by Whose Spirit the whole Church is multiplied and ruled, preserve in the newborn offspring of Thy family the grace of sanctification which Thou hast given. And grant that they, being renewed both in body and mind, and earnestly cleaving unto the unity of the Faith, may be enabled faithfully to serve Thee their Lord; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

ALMIGHTY Father I humbly thank The

for the many good gifts which Thou hast bestowed on the children whom Thou hast intrusted to me. I reverently implore Thy special favour and regard towards them. Make them to grow in true wisdom, in the knowledge and love of Thee, and lead them on to all perfection of human nature. Grant them health and strength of body, due capacity of mind, and accomplishments of education. Give them the

power and the will to serve Thee faithfully and signally. Protect them in all temptation. Give them sufficiency of worldly means. Make the boys sensible, manly, honest, simple-minded, and tender-hearted; and the girls gentle, amiable, useful, and unselfish. Help me to bring them up with all possible care and discretion, as a diligent steward of Thy most precious treasures; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

LMIGHTY and everlasting God, I thank Thee that I was privileged to join in the charitable work of bringing to Thy holy Baptism my Godchildren, viz. . . . (here mention them). I pray Thee that they may have power and strength to triumph against the devil, the world, and the flesh. In due time give them the benefit of Confirmation, and bring them worthily to Thy holy Table, so that they, who were made partakers of the Resurrection of the Lord in their baptism, may daily advance in the gifts of the Spirit, crucifying the old man; and following the example of Christ our Lord, may finally attain to the resurrection of the just; and this I beg humbly for Jesus Christ's sake. For Candidates for Confirmation.

LORD God, Who through Thy Church

invite these Thy servants to come to Thee in this holy ordinance, give them, I beseech Thee, strength to live as becomes Thy adopted children; and so help them by Thy

Spirit to fight the good fight, that they may endure unto the end, and at last receive the crown of everlasting life. Assist them so to prepare for this ordinance that they may have a deep sense of their present weakness, and of their failure in doing their duty. Make them to feel bitterly their faults and shortcomings, and give them a godly repentance, and an earnest desire for Thy grace.

And grant, O Lord, that when they approach Thee to seek Thy strength, they may humbly, and thankfully, and cheerfully, make profession of their faith and duty, and then receive from Thee all the benefits of spiritual comfort and courage, and go forth strengthened to mortify all evil and corrupt affections, and daily to advance in all virtue and godliness of living; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Relations and Friends.

LORD and Father of all, I pray Thee on behalf of my relations and friends, especially. that they may live under Thy protection, free from bodily infirmity and from all worldly trouble. Make them to love Thee with all their heart and strength, that they may do all things as unto Thee, and daily amending their lives, may grow in holiness, through the power of Thy most Holy Spirit. Give them a continual sense of Thy Presence. Make them diligent and useful in Thy service. Keep them in all temptation, and cherish in our hearts mutual affection. May their prayers for me be accepted, and return into their own bosoms; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
