Of the APOSTLES CREED, and the Eftablishment of the CHURCHES.

T was the Opinion of the Antient Fathers, that the Apoftles, before they departed from Jerufalem, drew up a Symbol or Creed, as a Mark or Token whereby the true Believers might be distinguished from the falfe. 'Tis a Summary, or Abftract of the fundamental Principles of the Chriftian Religion, digefted in the following Form, and commonly called

Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth: And in JESUS Chrift his only Son our LORD, "who was conceived by the HoLY GHOST, "born of the Virgin Mary, fuffered under "Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and "buried; he defcended into Hell; the third "Day he rofe again from the Dead; he "afcended into Heaven, and fitteth at the "Right Hand of God the Father Almighty; "from thence he fhall come to judge the "Quick and the Dead.
