"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God; but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant."

Philip. ii. 5, 6, 7.

"Let Thy Priest be clothed with righteousness."

Note here that:

The Priest at the Altar "in the midst of the congregation" is doing on earth what the Great High Priest, Jesus Christ, is doing in the "great multitude" in Heaven before the Throne.

The Priest is "shewing forth" the Lord's Death. The Great High Priest is doing the same.

The Great High Priest presents before the Father in His Own Person the Memorial of the Passion, that Crucified Form, His Body and His Blood. The Priest, who represents Him and who ministers in His Name, presents before the Father the same Body and Blood veiled beneath the outward form of Bread and Wine.

The High Priest pleads His own merits for "all God's whole Church," for them who are living, and for "those who are departed this life in the faith and fear" of God. The Priest likewise pleads the merits of Christ for "all God's whole Church."

In this Memorial of the Cross and Passion of Jesus the congregation unite here with the Priest. In the same Memorial "the great multitude" unite above with the Great High Priest.

Therefore, as the Church bids, "lift up your hearts," and remember, that the worship of the Church upon earth in the Blessed Sacrament is the counterpart of the worship of the Church in Heaven.

Thy blessing, Lord, on him who ministers at Thine Altar.

INVOCATION OF THE HOLY GHOST.

"O Lord God, Holy Father, send down, we pray and beseech Thee, upon these gifts Thy most Holy Ghost, that, coming upon them with His holy and good and glorious Presence, He may hallow and make this Bread the Holy Body of Thy Christ, and this Cup the precious Blood of Thy Christ, that they may be to those, who partake of them, for the remission of sin and eternal life."-Liturgy of S. Fames.

O! in wondrous condescension
Jesus seeks His Altar throne;
Though in lively symbols hidden,

Faith and love His Presence own :
When the Lord His Temple visits,
Let the listening earth be still;
May the Spirit's sweet indwelling,
Each believing heart fulfil.

Here, in figure represented,
See the Passion once again;
Here, behold, the Lamb most Holy
As for our redemption slain ;
Here the Saviour's Body broken,
Here the Blood which Jesus shed,

Mystic Food of Life Eternal,

See, for our refreshment spread.

Here shall highest praise be offered,
Here shall meekest prayer be poured,

Here with body, soul, and spirit,
God Incarnate be adored :

Holy Jesus, for Thy coming

May Thy love our hearts prepare; Thine we fain would have them wholly, Enter, Lord, and tarry there.
