DIRECTION OF INTENTION

Sundap

LORD JESU CHRIST, GOD of GOD, Light of Light, Very GOD of Very GOD, to the praise and glory of Thy supreme Majesty; in remembrance of Thy most holy Life, Passion, and Death; in thanksgiving for all Thy gifts and graces bestowed on me Thy unworthy servant, and upon Thy whole Church; for the pardon of my numberless sins; for my salvation, and that of my relations, temporal and spiritual, my friends and benefactors, my enemies, my neighbours and acquaintance, my pastors and spiritual adviser, and all that have recommended themselves to my prayers, or for whom I am bound to pray; for the repose of the faithful departed; for the wellbeing of my soul and body; for the direction of my senses and feelings, my counsels and thoughts, my words and works; and for Thy One, Holy, Catholic, and

Apostolic Church, I join in offering up this unbloody Sacrifice of Thy most Holy BODY and Thy All-saving BLOOD, to Thy Eternal FATHER, GOD Almighty. And I pray Thee also, LORD JESU, for Thy Holy Church, and for each member of it; that every one may know Thee; that all may worship, honour, and reverence Thee; that all may love Thee, and be beloved by Thee: and especially I pray for all sinners, that Thou, LORD, mayest be pleased to convert them; that Thou mayest call to the true Faith all heretics and schismatics; that Thou mayest enlighten the infidels and heathen who know Thee not; and that those who err, or are deceived, Thou mayest restore and bring into the right way. Of a truth, O LORD, in Thee alone is all that can satisfy these the desires of my heart, and the humble intention of this my preparation. For whom have I in heaven but Thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire in comparison of Thee. Wilt not Thou Thyself be my Portion, and my exceeding great Reward?

IN

Monday

N union with that Divine intention, O LORD JESU CHRIST, with which Thou didst offer the Sacrifice of Thy BODY and BLOOD to GOD, the FATHER, in the Last Supper, and on the Altar of the Cross, I join in offering unto Him this same Sacrifice may It be well pleasing to Him, O Good JESU, in Thee; and by Thee, may He be merciful

unto us, unto eternal life. I beseech Thee, O LORD JESU CHRIST, for all those for whom I am bound to pray, to whom I am united, or who are united to me by relationship, kindred, or friendship; for those who are intrusted to me, in devotion, or for almsgiving; for those who pray for me; for those to whom I am a debtor; for those who have commended themselves to my prayers; for all Christian people; for my Diocese; for all Bishops of the Holy Catholic Church; for all Priests, that Thou mayest make them persevere, humbly, faithfully, and devotedly in Thy holy service; and for all faithful Christians both quick and dead; that in whatever affliction or trouble they may be placed, Thou mayest have pity, and mayest grant succour to the afflicted.

I,

Tuesday

COMING to the Table of Thy holy Feast, O Merciful LORD CHRIST, do, with all the affections of my heart, and a pure and single intention, join in offering to the praise and glory of the eternal Majesty of Thy Heavenly FATHER, and in commemoration of Thy most holy Incarnation, Life, Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension, that most costly Sacrifice of Thy Sacred BODY and Thy All-saving BLOOD, which Thyself didst offer to GOD, the FATHER Almighty, once for all, upon the Altar of the Cross. I offer It, O my GOD, in thanksgiving for all the gifts and blessings hitherto

bestowed, or hereafter to be bestowed, on all the company of the faithful, and on me, though most unworthy; in propitiation for my sins, and for the sins of the whole world; for the salvation of the living, and the blissful repose of the departed. And I would, LORD JESU, that I could join in celebrating this so mighty Work of love, with all the affection, fervour, devotion, and longing of Thy true friends; whether now reigning with Thee in Heaven, or still militant here on earth.

Wednesday

LORD JESUS CHRIST, I, Thine unworthy servant, intend, with the greatest possible feelings of love, reverence, and devotion, to join in offering to the divine Majesty of Thy Co-eternal, and Co-equal FATHER, to Whom alone It is due, the most holy Eucharistic Sacrifice; and I humbly propose to offer It, in union with all sacrifices pleasing unto Him, which are typical of the most Precious BLOOD of His Dear SON; together with the prayers and praises of Thy whole Church; in union with the Sacrifice which Thou didst institute at the Last Supper, and didst consummate on the shameful, though most glorious, Cross, being Thyself both Priest and Victim; in the name of Thy spotless Bride, the Church; out of love to Thee, and longing for Thy goodwill, always, and in all things, to be perfected. I join in offering It, in protestation of Thy supreme and uncreated excel

lence, of Thy dominion over all creatures, and of our subjection to, and dependence upon Thee; in thanksgiving for all benefits ever conferred, or to be conferred upon all creatures; in full reparation for every injury done, or to be done against Thee; in service of worship due to Thee alone; and also for the increase of the joy of Thy sacred and sinless Humanity, in memory of Thy Death and Passion. I join in offering It also, in thanksgiving for all the benefits and blessings bestowed on me; in satisfaction for my sins, for which I am heartily sorry; on account of the offences and injuries which I have done to Thee; and in behalf of all present and future needs of soul and body. I join in offering It lastly, in behalf of quick and dead, for whom Thou knowest and willest I should offer this Sacrifice for my parents, my relations, spiritual and temporal, my friends, and benefactors; for every estate in Thy Holy Catholic Church; for the union of Christian princes; for the rooting out of heresy and schism, of infidelity and godlessness; for the conversion of all heathen nations; and for the sanctification, preservation, and increase of the three orders of the Ministry, Bishops, Priests, and Deacons. Look on Thy unworthy servant, whom Thou willest to join in offering this Sacrifice, in Thy presence, for the quick and dead; that to the departed Thou mayest grant rest, and to the living, pardon and grace, to serve Thee faithfully, and to persevere in Thy love unto the end.
