-the Doctor did not visit our Institution, and some at least of the ten Missionary districts into which the islands are divided; as men intending to write a book ought to Chave done. I remember hearing of their arrival at the seaport of Levuka; but never have I heard of their visiting Mission stations, or travelling with the Missionaries in their canoes and boats,-which we each and all should have been most happy to have seen them doing, with the view to gather up facts abounding on every hand, from which they would have been able to have written correctly as to actual work done, and the reformation that has been effected. But my letter will grow too long if I go on: therefore let me say for the present, in true Fijian style, “My letter is finished, but not my love." Meeting of the General Committee THE REV. LUKE H. WISEMAN, (PRESIDENT OF THE CONference,) PRESENT: James Heald, Esq., and Rev. Dr. Jobson, (Treasurers,) Rev. W. B. Boyce, G. T. Perks, William Arthur, Charles Prest, Dr. Osborn, Dr. Rigg, J. Walton, Dr. Stamp, W. F. Moulton, J. Nightingale, E. E. Jenkins, D. Sanderson, Gervase Smith, B. Frankland, J. W. Greeves, George Bowden, J. Kilner, G. Baugh; also, Messrs. J. S. Budgett, T. P. Bunting, T. Sercombe, T. Farmer Hall, Alexander M'Arthur, and William M'Arthur, M.P. The Minutes of the last Meeting of the Committee were read, and confirmed. The death of the Rev. W. Shepstone, who had faithfully served the "Society in South Africa for upwards of forty years, was reported. Mr. Boyce spoke in the highest terms of the exemplary life, the self-denying labours, and the happy death of this esteemed Minister, one of the first of the late Rev. W. Shaw's colleagues in the Kaffir Mission. A proposal for the erection of chapels, premises, &c., in Spezia, (Italy,) at a cost of £3,000, was brought before the Committee. The "Secretaries could not recommend the engaging in so large an undertaking, in which opinion the Committee coincided. Openings in Mexico for a Mission, especially in reference to sundry British miners, were brought before the Committee in a letter from the Rev. Dr. Butler, of the Methodist Episcopal Church. While unable to commence a Mission in Mexico, the Committee rejoice that their brethren of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the United States are in the field, and that they are caring for the British residents in that .country. The Rev. George Baugh was heard, in reference to the necessity for a High School in the Singhalese District, Ceylon, and the matter was eferred to the Secretaries for a fuller consideration. The Committee, taking into consideration the proposal of an addition to the Secretariat, resolved, "That under present circumstances it is not expedient to depart from the Resolution of last year." After which, the changes in the Committee to be submitted to the ensuing Conference were discussed and arranged. GENERAL MISSION FUND.
