Difference between, whence this Power was, and where it was exercised, and from believing that his Kingdom, which reached over the Powers of Hell, reached over the Powers of this World, or was exercised here; and who lately made an Attempt, as he hoped, in the Dark, to blast the Evidence produced to prove it, which is out of his Reach, either to anfwer or quibble upon, will, if he perfift at fome Time, have full, though difagreeable Conviction, fitted for fuch as no other Evidence will work upon.

Month and Perfons bear this Name, fome fingle and fome compounded with other Words. This is an Epithet, of the Aleim, and frequently reclaimed, Exod. xv. 6, Thy Right-Hand, O Jehovah, is become glorious in Power. Ver. 11, Who is like unto thee, glorious in Holiness. 1 Sam. iv. 8, Who shall deliver us out of the Hands of thefe mighty Aleim? Pfal. vii. 9, How excellent is thy Name in all the Earth. Pfal. lxxvi. 4, Thou art 8 more gloious and excellent than the Mountains of Prey. Ib xciii. 4, Jehovah on high is mightier than the Noife of many Waters, yea, than the mighty Waves of the Sea. Ifa. xli. 21, He will magnify the Law and make it honourable. Ezek. xvii. 23, Be a goodly Cedar.

Xplained in the fecond Part of M. P. p. 145. fignifies fimply Lord, or one who had Command; this Name, with each of his Attributes are set to their proper Places. This Epithet was fufficiently contefted and detected by Elijah. 1 Kings xviii. It was as Melech, &c.

of which in their Refpective Places. There are Places and Perfons fo called, and joined with with y, &c. I fhall add fome of the Proofs of their Service to him, and a few of the Claims. Jud. ii. 11, And have ferved Baals. 2 Kings iii. 2. x. 26, They brought forth the Images out of the House of Baalbrake down the Image of Baal. 2 Chron. xxviii. 2. And made alfo molten Images for Baals. caufe thy Husbands are thy Makers, the Effence exifting, thofe in whom the Force exifts in his Name. Jer. iii. 14, For I am married unto you. Ib. xxxi. 32, Which my Terms of Purification they brake, though I was an Husband unto them. It appears that fome Hebrew Words, which would have been expreffive, and relate not to fome particular Action, upon being applied to these Powers, are for that Reason avoided, as Hof. ii. 16, Thou shalt call me my Man, and shall no more call me by my Husband. Zeph. i. 4. I will cut off the Remnant of Baal from this Place.

pass: Men worshipped not for any fuch Causes. This is a Word used in Affyria. We find in Daniel, that TD was a Prefident, so we must take this for a general Name by which they expreffed Power, and, perhaps, as they thought, Wisdom in the Names; fo the Claims in Hebrew must be from Words of the fame Signification.

The Words express the Operator, the Agent, the Names; these Words were not, that we know of, used together by the Heathens, but by the perverted Jews; who, notwithstanding they knew that Jehovah Aleim, created and appointed this their Deputy, Gen. i. 2. and that they claim these as Servants, and had frequently proved they obey'd by Miracles, who, as it appears, Jer. vii. went to the Temple of Jehovah Aleim; and ver. 17. facrificed to this Agent, in the Streets of Jerufalem, and pleaded ver. 10, and fay, we are delivered to do all thefe Abomina tions.
