29 And, when the people were gathered thick together, he began to fay, This is an evil generation: they feek a fign; and there fhall no hign be given it, but the fign of Jonas the prophet.

30 For as Jonas was a fign unto the Ninevites, fofhall alfo the Son of man be to this generation.

31 The queen of the louth fhall rife up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for fhe came from the utmoft parts of the earth to hear the wifdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

32 The men of Nineve fhall life up in the judgment with this generation, and thall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jours; and, behold, agreater than Jolas is here.

39 And the Lord faid unto him, Now do ye Pharifees make clean the outfide of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

40 re fools! did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within alfo!

41 But rather give alms of fuch things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

42 But woe unto you, Pharifees! for ye tithe mint, and rue, and all manner of herbs, and pafs over judgment and the love of God: theie ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the fynagogues, and greetings in the markets.

So That the blood of all the prophets, which was fhed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

51 From the blood of Abel, unto the blood of Zacharias, which perihed between the altar and the temple: verily I fay unto you, It hall be required fthis generation.

2 Wee unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of Knowledge: yeentered not in yourTelves, and them that were enterng in ye hindered.

53 And, as he faid these things into them, the fc ibes and the Pharifees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to peak of many things:

But I will forewarn you whom ye fhall fear; Fear him which, af ter he hath killed, hath power to caft into hell, yea, I fay unto you, Fear him.

Of over-carefulness. S. LUKE. Of giving alms, &c.

169 And he spake a parable unto them, faying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17 And he thought within himfelf, faying, What thall I do, becaufe I have no room where to beftow my fruits?

18 And he faid, This will I do I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I beftow all my fruits and my goods.

19 And I will fay to my foul, Soul, thou haft much goods laid up for many years; take thine cafe, eat, drink, and be merry.

20 But God faid unto him, Thou fool, this night thy foul fhall be equired of thee: then whofe fhall thote things be which thou haft provided?

21 So is he that layeth up treafure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

22 And he faid unto his difciples, Therefore I fay unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye hall eat; neither for the body, what ye fhall put on.

23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. 24 Consider the ravens ; for they neither fow nor, reap; which neither have florehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? 25 And which of you, with taking thought can add to his Aature one cubit

26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is leaf, why take ye thought for the reft?

27 Confider the lilies how they Prow: they toil not, they pin not; and yet ay unto you, That Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of theic.

28 It then God fo clothe the grus which is to-day in the field, and to-morrow is caft into the

oven; how much more will be clothe you, O ye of little faith?

29 And feek not ye what ye thall eat, or what ye fhall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

30 For all these things do the nations of the world feek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

31 But rather feek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things fhall be added unto you.

32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

33 Sell that ye have, and give alms: provide your felves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

34 For where your treafure is, there will your heart be alfo.

35 Let your loins be girded a bout, and your lights burning;

36 And ye yourfelves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that, when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

37 Bleffed are thofe fervants, whom the lord, when he cometh, fhall find watching: verily Ifay unto you, That he fhall gird himself, and make them to fit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

38 And if he fhall come in the fecond watch, or come in the third watch, and find them fo, bleffed are thofe fervants.

39 And this know, that if the good man of the house had known what hour the thief would come he would have watched, and not have fuffered his houfe to be broken through.

40 Be ye, therefore, ready alfog for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

Of minifters duty. CHA P. XII, XIII. Of reconciliation, &c. 41 Then Peter faid unto him, three against two, and two against Lord, fpeakeft thou this parable unto us, or even to all?

42 And the Lord faid, Who then is that faithful and wife fteward, whom his lord fhall make ruler over his houthold, to give them their portion of meat in due feafon?

43 Bleffed is that fervant, whom his lord, when he cometh, fhat find fo doing.

44 Of a truth I fay unto you, That he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

45 But and if that fervant fay in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and fhall begin to beat the men-fervants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

46 The lord of that fervant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in funder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

47 And that tervant which knew his lord's will, and prepared not bimfelf, neither did according to his will, fhall be beaten with many Stripes.

48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of ftripes, fhall be beaten with few ripes. For unto whomfoever much is given, of him thall be much required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will alk the more.

49 I am come to fend fire on the earth; and what will I if it be already kindled?

54 And he faid alfo to the people, When ye fee a cloud rife out of the west, straightway ye fay, There cometh afhower; and fo it is.

55 And when ye fee the fouth wind blow, ye fay, There will be heat; and it cometh to pafs.

56 Yehypocrites! ye can difcern the face of the fky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not difcern this time?

57 Yea, and why even of yourfelves judge ye not what is right?

5 I tell you, Nay; but, except ye repent, ye fhall all likewife perish. 61 He fpake alfo this parable: A certain man had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and fought fruit thereon, and found none.

7 Then faid he unto the dreffer of his vineyard, Behold, thefe three years I come feeking fruit on this g-tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

8 And he answering, faid unt him, Lord, letit alone this year alfe, till I fhall dig about it, and dung it: 9 And if it bear fruit, veli; and If not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

to And he was teaching in one of the fynagogues on the fabbath. 11 And, behold, there was a wongan which had a fpirit of inFimity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wife lift up herself.

12 And, when Jefus faw her, be called her to him, and faid unto her, Woman, thou art loofed from thine infirmity.

13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately the was made ftraight, and glorified God.

14 And the ruler of the fynagogue anfwered with indignation, becaufe that Jefus had healed on the fabbath-day, and faid unto the people, There are fix days in which men ought to work; in them, therefore, come and be healed, and not on the fabbath-day.

15 The Lord then anfwered him, and faid, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the fabbath 1e his ox or bis afs from the fall, and lead him away to watering ?

19 It is like a grain of mustardfeed, which a man took and caft into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

20 Andagain he faid, Whereunto fhali i liken the kingdom of God?

21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three mea. fures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

22 And he went through the cities and villages teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
