Chrift admired: CHAP IV. he ureth many diseases eyes of all an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, and fat down. And they fald, Is not this Jofeph's fon? 23 And he faid unto them, Ye will furely fay unto me this proverb, Phyfician, heal thyfelf: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do alfo here in thy country. 14 And he faid, Verily I fay unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. 25 But I tell you ofatruth, Many widows were in Ifrael in the days of Elias, when the heaven was thut up three years and fix months, when great famine was throughout all the land; 26Butuntonone ofthem was Elias fent, faveuntoSarepta,acityof Sidon unto a woman that was a widow. 27 And many lepers were in If. rael in the time of Elifeus the prophet; and none of them was cleanfed, faving Naaman the Syrian. 28 And all they in the fynagogue, when they heard there things, were filled with wrath, 29 And rofe up, and thruft him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their was built, that they might caft him down headlong city wat 30 But he, paffing through the midft of them, went his way, 31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the fabbath day. 34 Saying, et us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jefus of Nazareth; art thouce me to deftroy us? I know thee who thou art; the holy One of God. say. 35 And Jefus rebuked hi ing, Hold thy peace, ant! come out of him. And, when the devil had thrown him in the midft, he came out of him and hurt him pot. 36 And they were all amazed, and fpake among themselves, fay ing, What a word is this !for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean fpirits, and they come out. 37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the couatry round about. 38 1 And he arose out of the fynagogue, and entered into Simon's houfe: and Simon's wife's mother, was taken with a great fever; and they befought him for her. 39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her And immediately the a arose, and ministered unto them. 40 40 Now, when the fun was fetting, all th y that had any fick with diverse diseases brought them unte him ; and be laid his hands on every one ofthem, and healed them. 41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and faying, Thou art Chrift, the Son of God. The leper leanfed. 12 ¶ And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold, a man full of leprofy; who, teeing Jefus, fell on his face, and befought him, faying, Lord, if thou wilt, A the people prefied upon him thou can make me clean. to hear the word of God, he ftood by the lake of Gennefaret, 2 And faw two fhips ftanding by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, faying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately the leprofy departed from him. 14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and fhew thyself to the pries, and offer for thy cleanfing according as Mofes commanded, for a teftimony unto them. 3 And he entered into one of the fhips whichwasSimon's,and prayed him that he would thruft out a little fromthe land. For he was aftonifhed, and all that were with him, at the draught of the files which they had taken: so And fo was alfo James and John, the fons of Zebedee, which were partnera with Simon. And Jefus faid unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thon fhalt catch men. 11 And, when they had brought their ihips to land, they forfo all and followed him. 16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness and prayed. 17 And it came to pars on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharifces and doctora of the law fitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judea, and Jerufalem; and the power of the Lord was prefent to heal them. 18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a paliy: and they fought means to bring him in, and to lay him be fore him. 19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in becaufe of the multitude, they went upon the houfe-top, and let him down through the tiling, with bis couch, into the midft before Jefus. zo And, when he fav their faith, he faid unto him, Man,thy fins are forgiven thee. 21 And the scribes and the Pharifees began to reafon, faying, Who is this which speaketh blafphemies? Who can forgive fins but God alone? CHAP. V, VI. Two parables, ke. Matthew called. 22 But when refus perceived chamber faft while the bridegroom their thoughts, he, anfwering, faid is with them? unto them, What reafon ye in your hearts? 23 Whether is cafier to fay, Thy fins be forgiven thee; or to fay, Rife up and walk? 24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive fins, (he faid unto the fick of the pally,) I fay unto thee, Arife, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. 25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own houfe, glorifying God. 26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were 35 Butthe days will come, when the bridegroom fhall be taken away from them, and then fhall they faft in those days. 561 And he ipake alfo a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old: it otherwife, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth notwith the old. 37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; elle the new wine will burft the bottles, and be fpilled, and the bottles inall perih. 38 But new wine muft be pat into new bottles; and both are filled with fear, faying, We have pro man alfo, having drunkold feen ftrange things to-day. 27 And after thefe things he went forth, and faw a publican, named Levi, fitting at the receipt of cuftom: and he faid unto him, Follow me. 28 And he left all, rofe up, and Followed him. 29 And Levi made him a great feaft in his own houfe: and there was a great company of publicans, and of others, that fat down with them. 30 But their fcribes and Pharifees murmured againft his difciples, faying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and finners? 31 And Jefus anfwering, faid unto them, They that arc whole need not a phyfician; but they that are fick. 32 I came not to call the righteous, but finners, to repentance. 33 T And they faid unto him, 39 wine, ftraightway delireth new; for he faith, The old is better. CHA P. Bleffed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. 22 Bleffed are ye when men fhall hate you, and when they hall feparate you from their company, and fhall reproach you, and caft out your name as evil, for the Son of man's fake. 23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy; for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. 24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your confolation. 25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye thall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye fhall mourn and weep. 26 Woe unto you when all men fali ipeak well of you! for fo did their fathers to the falfe prophets. 27 But I fay unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you; 28 Bless them that curfe you, and pray for them which defpitefully ufe you. 29 And unto him that firiteth thee on the one cheek, offer alfo the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak, forbid not to take thy coat alfo. VI, VII. love our enemies, &C. 30 Give to every man that afketh ofthee; and of him that taketh away thy goods, afk them not again. 31 And as ye would that men fhould do to you, do ye alfo to them likewife. 32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for finners alfo love thofe that love them. 33 And if ye do good to thent which do good to you, what thank have ye? for finners allo do even the fame. 34 Andifye lend to them ofwhom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for finners alfo lend to finners, to receive as much again. out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyfelf beholdeft not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, caft out firft the beam out of thine owneye, and then halt thou fee clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. 43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by his own fruit: for of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramblebush gather they grapes. 45 A good man, out of the good treafure of his heart, bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man, out of the evil treafure of his heart, bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth fpeaketh. 35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward fhall be great, and ye fhall be the children of the higheft: for he is kind unto the unthankful, and to the evil. I 47 Whefoevercometh to me, and heareth myfayings,and doeththem, I will fhew you to whom he is likes 36 Be ye, therefore, merciful, as your Father alfo is merciful. 37 Judge not, and ye fhall not be judged: condemn not, and ye fhall not be condemned: forgive, and ye thall be forgiven: 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good meature, preffed down, and fhaken together, and running over, hall men give into your bofom for with the fame measure that ye mete withal, it shall be measured to you again. 39 And he fpake a parabie unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? fhall they not both fall into the ditch? 40 The difciple is not above his maker: but every one that is perfect thall be as his mafter. 41 And why beholdeft thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceiveft not the beam that is thine own eye? 42 Bither how canft thou fay to the brother, Brother, let me pull 46 ¶ And why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which fay? 48 He is like a man which built an honíe, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock; and when the food arofe, the fream beat vehemently upon that houfe, and could not fhake it; for it was founded upon a rock. 49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that, without a foundation, built an houfe upon the earth; against which the ftream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that houfe was great. CHAP. VII. The centurion's faith. NOW, when he had ended all his fayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Ca pernaum. 2 And a certain centurion's fervant, who was dear unto him, was fick, and ready to die. |
