32 And the fcribe faid unto him, Well, Mafter, thou haft faid the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the foul, and with all the ftrength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt-offerings and facrifices.

34 And when Jefus faw that he anfwered discreetly, he faid unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durft ask him any question.

35 ¶ And Jefus anfwered, and faid, while he taught in the tele, How fay the cribes that Chrit is

the fon of David?

36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghoft, The LORD aid to my Lord, Sit thou en my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

37 David, therefore, himfeifeleth him Lord; and hence is he then his fon? And the common people heard him gladly.

38 And he faid unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the feribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love falutations in the marketplaces,

39 And the chief feats in the fynagogues, and the uppermoft rooms at feafts;

40 Which devour widows houfes, and for a pretence make long prayers: thefe fhall receive greater damnation.

41 And Jefus fat over againit the treafury, and beheld how the people caft money into the treafury: and many that were rich caft in much.

42 And there came a certain poor widow, and fhethrew in two mites, which make a farthing.

43 And becalled unto him his dif ciples, and faith into that, Verily I fay unto you, That this poor widow bath cat more in than all they wch have cat into the treafury:

44 For all they did caft in of their abundance; but the of her want did caft in al that he had, even all her living.

CHAP. XIII. The deftruction of the temple. ND as he went out of the tem le, one of his difciples faith unto him, Mafter, fee what inanner of ftones, and what build-a ings, are here!

2 And Je fus anfwering, said unto him, Seeft thou thele great buildings? there fhall not be left one ftone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he fat upon the mount of Olives, over against the temple, Pete, and James, and Juan, and Andre, aed him privately,

4 Tell us, when the thefe things be? and what shall be the fign when all these things fhall be ful Slled?

5 And Jefus anfwering them, began to fay, Take heed, left any man deceive you:

6 For many fhall come in my name, faying, I am Chrift; and fhall deceive many.

7 And whenye fhall hear of wars, and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for fuch things muft needs be; but the end shall not be yet.

8 For nation frall rife againft nation, and kingdom againft kingdom; and there fhall be earthquakes in diverfe places, and there fhall be famines and troubles: thefe are the beginnings of forrows.

9 ¶ But take heed to yourselves for they fhall deliver you up to councils; and in the fynagogues ye fhall be beaten; and ye thall be

11 But when they fhall lead you, and deliver you up, take nothought beforehand what ye fhall fpeak, neither do ye premeditate; but whatfoever fhall be given youinthat hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that fpeak, but the Holy Ghoft.

12 Now, the brother fhall betray the brother to death, and the father the fon; and children fhall rife up against their parents, and hall cause them to be put to death.

17 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give fuck, in those days!

18 And pray ye that your fight be not in the winter.

21 And then, if any man fhall fay to you, Lo, here is Chrift; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: 22 For falfe chrifts and falfe prophets fhall rife, and fhall thew figna and wonders, to feduce, if it were poffible, even the elect.

23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

24 But in thofe days, after that tribulation, the fun fhall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

25 And the ftars of heaven fhall fall, and the powers that are in heaven fhall be fhaken;

26 And then shall they fee the Son of man coming in the clouds, with great power and glory.

27 And then fhall he fend his angels, and fhail gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermoft part of the earth to the uttermoft part of heaven.

28. Now, learn a parable of the fig-tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that fummer is near:

29 So ye, in like manner, when ye fhall fee thefe things come to pafs, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

30 Verily I fay unto you, That this generation thall not pais till all these things be done.

31 Heaven and earth fhall pafs away: but my words fhall not pafs

away.

32 But of that day and that hou knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

A confpiracy against Chrift. FTER two days was the feaft of the paffover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priefts and the fcribes fought how they might take him by craft, and put bim to death.

2 But they faid, Not on the feafday, left there be an uproar of the people.

3¶ And being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he fat at meat, there came a woman having an alabafter-box of ointment of fpikenard, very precious; and fhe brake the box, and poured it on his head.

And there were fome that had indignation within them felves, and faid, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

5 For it might have been fold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmared against her.

6 And Jefus faid, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? the hath wrought a good work on me.

7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whenfoever ye will ye may do them good': but me ye have not always.

8 She hath done what she could: fhe is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

9 Verily I fay unto you, Where foever this golpel fhall be preached throughout the whole world, this alfo that the hath done shall be fpoken of, for a memorial of her.

10 ¶ And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priefts, to betray him unto them.

11 And when they heard it they were glad and promised to give him money. And he fought how he might conveniently betray him.

12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the paffover, his difciples faid unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare, that thou mayeft eat the paffover?

13 And he fendeth forth two of bis difciples, and faith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there fhall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

14 And wherefoever he fhall go in, fay ye to the goodman of the house, The Mafter faith, Where is the gueft-chamber, where I thall eat the paffover with my difciples?

15 And he will fhew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

16 And his difciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had faid unto them: and they made ready the paffover.

18 And as they fat, and did eat, Jefus faid, Verily I fay unto you One of you which eateth with me fhall betray me.

19 And they began to be forrowful, and to fay unto him one by one, Is it I? And another said, It it I?

20 And he anfwered, and faid unto them, It is one of the twelve that dippeth with me in the dish.

21 The Son of manindeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

22 ¶ And as they did eat, Jefus took bread, and bleffed, and brake

23 And he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them; and they all drank of it.

24 And he faid unto them, This my blood of the new teftament, which is fhed for many.

25 Verily I fay unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the wine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

26 And when they had fung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

27 And Jefus faith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will fmite the Shepherd, and the fheep fhall be fcattered.

28 But after that I am rifen I will go before you into Galilee.

29 But Peter faid unto him, Although all fhall be offended, yet will not I.

30 And Jefus iaith unto him, Verily I fay unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thon fhalt deny me thrice.

31 But he fpake the more vehemently, If I fhould die with thee I will not deny thee in any wife. Likewife alfo faid they all.

32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he faith to his difciples, Sit ye here while I fall pray.

33 And he taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and began to be fore amazed, and to be very heavy;

34 And faith unto them, My foul is exceeding lorrowful unto death: tarry ye here and watch.

35 And he went forward a little, ano fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were poffible, the hour might pafs from him.

36 And he laid, Abba, Father, all things are pollible unto thee; take

37 And he cometh, and findeth them fleeping, and faith unto Peter, Simon, fleepeft thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

38 Watch ye, and pray, left ye enter into temptation: the fpirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. 39 And again he went away, and prayed, and fpake the fame words.

40 And when he returned he found them asleep again; (for their eyes were heavy ;) neither wift they what to answer him.

41 And he cometh the third time, and faith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your reft: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of finners.

42 Rife up, let usgo; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

43 And immediately, while he yet fpake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great. multitude, with fwords and ftaves, from the chief priests, and the fcribes, and the elders.

44 And he that betrayed him had given thematokea, faying, Whomfoever I fhall kifs, that fame is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

45 And as foon as he was come he goeth ftraight way to him, and faith, Mafter, Mater; and kiffed him.

46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

48 And Jefus anfwered, and id unto them, Are ye come out, las again a thief, with fwords and with avis, to take me?

491 was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye too mea not: but the icriptures must be fulfilled.

51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about hisnaked body; and the young men laid hold on him,

52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

53% And they led Jefus away to the high priest and with him were affembled all the chief priests, and the elders, and the feribes.

54 And Peter followed him afai off, even into the palace of the high prieft: and he fat with the fervants, and warmed himfelf at the fire.

55 And the chief priests, and all the council, fought for witnefs agais Jefus to put him to death; and found none:

6 And fome began to fpit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to fay unto him, Pr Prophesy and the lervants did ftile him with the palms of their hands.

66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priel:

67 And when the faw Peter warming himself the looked upon him, and faid, And thou alfo wat with Jefus of Nazareth.

68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I whatthou fayeft. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

69 And a maid faw him again, and began to fay to them that good by, This is one of them.

57 And therearofe certain,andbare falfe witnefs againft him, laying, 58 We heard him fay, I will deftroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. 59 But neither fo did their witnefs agree together.

60 And the high prieft ftood up in the midft, and asked Jefus, faying, Anfwereft thou nothing? what is it which thefe witness against thee?

61 But he held his peace, and anfwered nothing. Again the high prieftafked him, and faid unto him, Art thou the Chrift, the Son of the Bleffed?

61 And Jefus faid, I am: and ye fhall fee the Son of man fitting on theght hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

63 Then the high prieft rent his Clothes, and faith, What need we any further witneffes?

64 Ye have heard the blafphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death

of them; for thou art a Gallican, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

71 But he began to curfe and to fwear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye fpeak.

2 And Pilate asked him, Artthou the king of the Jews? And he anfwering, faid unto him, Thou layeft it.
