Then the Priest, standing at midst of the Altar, shall begin the Gloria in Excelsis, the clerks and people continuing to sing or say with him as follows:

LORY be to God on high, and in earth peace, good will towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son Jesu Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.

For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

But in Advent, and from Septuagesima Sunday to Easter Eve, and on Vigils, and on the Sunday and week days of the Ember week in September Gloria in Excelsis shall not be said: and it may be omitted on week days at the discretion of the Priest.

Epistle corner of the altar, shall

turn him to the people and say, The Lord be with you.

Answer. And with thy spirit. Then shall follow the Collect for the day, and if there be more collects to be said beside that for the day, then shall the Priest again say, Let us pray, and then the Collects in their order.

And NOTE that (except in Christmas week) the number of Collects is always uneven: nor shall more than seven Collects be said.

On the week days between Epiphany and Lent and from Trinity to Advent, the last Collect shall be one of these two following for the Queen.

T The Collects ended, the Priest, still standing at the Epistle corner, shall read the Epistle, saying first The Epistle of Saint N. to ; or if a

lesson other than from the Epistle be to be read, The reading of such and such a Book. But when there are other ministers beside the Priest, the Subdeacon shall read the Epistle in the place appointed, the Priest meanwhile reading it privately at the Epistle corner of the Altar.

After the Epistle shall be sung or said the Anthem or Anthems appointed for the day or season. Which ended, the Priest at the Gospel corner of the Altar shall say, The Lord be in my heart and mouth that I may worthily

set forth his Holy Gospel. In the name of the Father, &c. The Lord be with you. Answer. And with thy spirit. The Holy Gospel written in the chapter of the Gospel according to Saint N.

The clerks and people shall answer, Glory be thee, O Lord. ¶ Then shall he read the Gospel. But when there are other Ministers beside the Priest, the Deacon, having received the Book, shall go up to the Priest, and bending before him shall ask his blessing, which he shall give in the above form, changing my heart and mouth into thy heart and mouth, and I may into thou mayest. Then the Deacon being come to the appointed place, shall say, The Lord be with you, and announce and read the Gospel, the Priest meanwhile reading it privately at the Gospel corner of the

Altar.

After the Gospel ended (which shall be done without any response, there shall be sung or said the Nicene Creed as followeth. Except on All Soul's Day and at Funerals. It may also be omitted on week days and at Low celebrations at the discretion of the Priest.

BELIEVE in one God the the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible:

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God,

Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God, Begotten, not made, Being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made, Who for us men, and for our salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the

Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man. And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. On Sundays and double feasts, at the principal Celebration, shall follow the Sermon. ¶ Then the Priest, returning to

the Lord's Table, shall say, for the offertory, one or more of these sentences following, which

the clerks shall sing, while the people do offer.

Let your light so shine
before men.

Lay not up.
Zacchæus stood.

Do ye not know.
While we have time.

Charge them who are

rich.

God is not unrighteous.

To do good.

Give alms of thy goods.

Be merciful

after thy

power.

He that hath pity.

Blessed is the man.

LMIGHTY and everliving

A God, who by thy holy their life. And we most humbly

beseech thee of thy goodness, O Lord, to comfort and succour all them, who in this transitory life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. And we also bless thy holy Name for all thy servants departed this life in thy faith and fear; beseeching thee to give us grace so to follow their good examples, that with them we may be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom: Grant this, O Father, for Jesus Christ's sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen. *Here he shall raise the chalice covered with the paten, slightly from the Altar with both hands at the words this oblation. When the oblations are to be censed, let all be observed as set forth in the Ceremonial. ¶ Then the Priest shall go to the right side of the Altar and wash his hands, saying, Cleanse me, O Lord, from every defilement of mind and body, that I may purely perform the service of the Lord.

¶ Then, returning to the Altar,

let him say,

In the spirit of humility and in a contrite heart let us be accepted of thee: and let this our sacrifice be acceptable in thy sight this day, O Lord our God. Then turning to the people he shall say,

Brethren, pray that this sacrifice, yours and mine, may be accepted by the Lord our God.

Answer. May the grace of

the Holy Spirit illumine thy heart and lips, and may the Lord accept this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving at thy hands on our behalf.

¶ But on All Souls' Day, and in the Service for the Dead, instead of Brethren pray, as above, the Priest shall say, Brethren, pray for the faithful departed. Answer. Grant them, O Lord, eternal rest, and let light perpetual shine upon them, as thou didst promise of old time to Abraham and his seed.

After which the Priest shall proceed, saying,

Priest. Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
