JAMES BURNS, 17 PORTMAN STREET, PORTMAN SQUARE;

W. EDWARDS, 12 AVE-MARIA LANE.

M.DCCC.XXXVII.

LONDON : PRINTED BY ROBSON, LEVEY, AND FRANKLYN,

46 St. Martin's Lane.

PREFACE.

The Editors of the “Church OF ENGLAND MAGAZINE” desire again to express their gratitude to God for the great and increasing success with which He has been pleased to crown their labours.

Their warmest thanks also are due to the many distinguished individuals who have enriched the present Volume with their contributions, and to those zealous friends who have kindly promoted in their respective neighbourhoods the circulation of the Magazine. The Editors venture to anticipate a yet wider range of action. There are large masses, especially of the middling and lower orders, whom their publication has at present scarcely reached ; and to whom they trust it would supply appropriate and useful reading, to the exclusion of that which is trifling or injurious. They therefore respectfully entreat their brethren the Clergy to use their efforts to promote the circulation of the Magazine throughout their several parishes, as a ready means of diffusing scriptural knowledge, deepening the feeling of affection to the Church, and thereby strengthening their own hands in their ministerial duties. Additional facilities are now offered for the general spread of the Magazine, as its weekly Numbers are published on the same day as in London in all the towns of the United Kingdom.

The Editors will only add, that it is their earnest prayer to be enabled to persevere in the course they have always proposed to follow, namely, to set forth the GLORY OF God, and to promote, though with no unkindly spirit towards those who differ from them, the welfare and peace of the APOSTOLIC CHURCH OF ENGLAND.

London, June 30th, 1837.
