XXVI.

S snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

The angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory; and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost. Ac. 12. 23.

2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

How shall I curse, whom

God hath not cursed? or how shalt I defy, whom the Lord hath not defied? Nu. 23. 8. The Lord thy God would not hearken unto Balaam: but the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the Lord thy God loved thee. De, 23. 5.Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed: but let thy servant rejoice. Ps. 109. 28.

3A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass,

and a rod for the fool's back.

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding; whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee. Ps. 32. 8, 9,

4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

The people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not, 2 Ki. 18. 36. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak. Ec. 3. 7.

5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders?... Why do ye transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? Mat. 15. 2, 3.

19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient; but rather giving of thanks. Eph. 5.4.

20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hands of the Philistines may be against him. 1 Sa. 18. 21.

26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss? Lu.

For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Lu. 12. 2.

27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

It was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me;

They hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. was the king's wrath pacified. Es. 7. 10.- He taketh the wise in their own craftiness and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
