Moreover, the word of the LORD came

to faying,

2 Go, and cry in the ears of Jerufalem, faying, Thus faith the LORD, I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine efponfals, when thou wenteft after me in the wildernels, in a land that was not fowen.

3 Ifrael was holinefs unto the LORD, and the frit-fruits of his increate all that devour him, fhall offend; evill fhall come upon them, faith the LORD.

21 Yet I had planted thee a noble vine wholly a right feed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a ftrange vine unto me?

22For though thou wath thee with nitre, & take thee much fope; yet thine iniquity is marked before me, faith the Lord God.

CHAP. II1.

16 And it hall come to pafs when ye be multiplied and increafed in the land: in thole dayes, faith the LORD, they fhall fay no more, Theark of the covenant of the LORD: neither fhall it come to mind,neither fhall they remember it, neither fhall they visit it, neither shall that be done any more. 17 At that time they shall call Jerufalem the throne of the LORD, and all the nations fhall be gathered unto it, to the Name of the LORD, to Jerufalem: neither fhall they walk any more after the imagination of their evilheart.

18 In thofe dayes the houfe of Judah fhall walk with the houfe of Ifrael, and they fhall come together out of the land of the north, to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers. 19 But I faid. How fhall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleafant land, a goodly heritage of the hofts of nations? and I taid, Thoufhalt call me, My father. and halt not turn away from me.

20. Surely, as a wife treacheroufly departeth from her husband: fo have you dealt treacheroufly with me, O house of Ifrael, faith the LORD.

21 A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and fupplications of the children of Ifrael: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God,

22 Return ye back-fliding children, and will heal your back-flidings: behold, we come unto thee, for thou art the LORD our God.

23 Truely in vain is falvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truely in the LORD our God the falvation of Ifrael.

24 Forfhame hath devoured labour of our fathers from our youth;their flocks,&their herds, their fons and their daughters.

25. We lie down in our fhame, and our confufion covereth us: for we have finned againt the LORD our God, we and our fathers from our youth, even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

CHA P. IV. God calleth Israel by bis promife. 3 He exhorteth Judab to repentance.

Go, and proclain these words to- F thou wilt return, Ifrael, faith the ward the north, and fay, Return thou back-LORD, return unto me; and if thou ding Ifrael, faith the LORD, and I will wilt put away thine abomations out of

Judah exhorted.

Chap. v.

Gods judgemen my fight, then halt thou not remove. 20 Deftruction upon deftruction is cried 2 And thoufhalt fwear, The LORD li- forŷ whole land is fpoiled: fuddenly are my veth in truth, in judgement and in righ- tents spoiled,& ry curtains in a moment. teoutnefs,and the nations fhall bless them- 21 How long thall I fee the ftandard felves in him, and in him fhall they glory. and hear the found of the trumpet? 3 For thus faith the LORD to the men of Judah & Jerufalem, Break up your fallow ground, and fow not among thorns. Circumcife your felves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah, and inhabitants ofJerufalem: left my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

5 Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerufalem, and fay, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and fay, Affemble your felves, and let us go into the defenced cities.

6 Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, ay not; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great deltruction.

7 The lion is come up from his thicket, and the deftroyer of the Gentiles is on his way, he is gone forth from his place to make thy land defolate, and thy cities fhall be laid walte, without an inhabitant.

8 For this gird you with fackcloath, la ment and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

9. And it fhall come to pafs at that day, faith the LORD, that the heart of the king fhall perish, and the heart of the princes: and the priests fhall be aftonifhed, and the prophets fhall wonder.

22 For my people is foolish, they have not known me, they are fottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wife to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

23 I beheld the earth, and lo, it was without form and void: and the heavens, and they had no light.

24 I beheld the mountains, and lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. 25 I beheld, and lo,there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.

26 I beheld, and lo, the fruit full place was a wilderness,and all the cities thereof were broken down at the prefence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.

27 For thus hath the LORD faid, The whole land fhall be defolate; yet will I not make a full end.

28 For this fhall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; becaufe I have fpoken it, I have purpofed it, and will not repent, neither will turn back from it. 29 The whole city fhall fee, for the noife of the horse-men and bow-men, they fhall go in thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forfaken, and net a man dwell therein.

30 And when thou art ipoiled, what wilt. thou do? 13 Behold, he fhall come up as clouds, and his chariots fhall be as a whirie-wind: his horfes are fwifter then eagles: wo unto us, for we are spoiled.

14 O Jerufalen wafli thine heart from wickednels, that thou mayeft be faved: how long fhall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

15 For a voicedeclareth from Dan, & publifheth affliction from mount Ephraim. 16 Make ye mention to nations,behold, publish against Jerufalem, that watchers come from a far countrey, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

Jerufalem, and fee now and know, and Un ye to and fro through the ftreets of feek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeh judgement, that feeketh the truth, and I will pardon it.

And though they fay, The LORD liveth, furely they fwear fallly.

How fhall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forfaken me, and fworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and allembled themselves by troops in the harlots houfes,

to Go ye upon her walls and deftroy, but make not a full end: take away her battlements, for they are not the LORDS. II For the houfe of Ifrael and the houfe of Judah have dealt very treacherouil againit me, faith the LORD.

25Youriniquities have turned away thefe things, and your fins have withholden good things from you.

26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait as he that fetteth fnares,they let a trap, they catch men.

27 As a cage is full of birds, fo are their houfes full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxed rich.

28 They are waxed fat, they fhine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the caufe, the caufeofthe fatherless, yet they profper and the right of the needy do they not judge. 29 Shall I not vifit for thefe things, faith the LORD? thall not my foul be avenged on fuch a nation as this?

30 A wonderfull and horrible thing is committed in the land.

15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, houfe of Ifrael, faith LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whofe language thou knowelt not, neither underftandeft what they fay. 16 Their quiver is as an open fepulchre, they are all mighty men.

17 And they fhall eat up thine harveft and thy bread, which thy fons and thy daughters fhould eat: they fhall eat up thy fucks and thine herds: they fhall eat up thy vines and thy fig-trees: they fhall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou truftedft, with the f word.

18 Nevertheless in thofe days, faith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you. 19 And it fhall come to pafs when ye fhall fay, Wherefore doth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then fhalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forfaken me, and ferved ftrange gods in your land; fo shall ye ferveftrangers in a land that is not yours.

20 Declare this in the houfe of Jacob, and publifhitin Judah, faying,

21 Hear now this, Ofoolish people, and without under/tanding, which have eyes and fee not, which have ears and hear not. 22 Fear ye not me faith the LORD? will ye not tremble at my prefence, which have placed the fand for the bound of the fea, by a perpetual decree y it cannot pals it; and though the waves thereof toffe themlves, yet can they not prevail; though

roar, yet can they not pafs over it.

CHAP.

VI.

I Judabs enemies. 4 Encourage them felves. 6 Godfetteth them on work.

Ye children of Benjamin, gather

2 I have likened the daughters of Zion, to a comely and delicate woman.

3 The fhepherds with their flocks fhall come unto her: they fhall pitch their tents against her round about: they fhall feed every one in his place.

4 Prepare ye war against her: arife and let us go up at noon wo unto us, for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are ftretched out.

5 Arife, and let us go by night, and let us deftroy herpalaces.

6 For thus hath the LORD of hosts faid Hew ye down trees,& cait a mount against Jerufalem: this is the city to be vifited, the is wholly oppreffionin the midst of her.

20 To what purpofe cometh there to meincenfe from Sheba? and the fweet canefrom a far countrey? your burnt-offerings are not acceptable, nor your facrifices fweet nnto me.

21 Therefore thus faith the LORD, Behold I will lay ftumbling blocks before this people, and the fathers and the fons together hall fall upon them: the neighbour and his friend fhall perilh.
